This is probably my #2 pick of the Shaw/Apple sheep series (Sheep in a Jeep is my clear #1 pick, and that of most of the toddlers I know.)
This one has the most apparent message, which is both a positive (because I like the message) and a distraction from the silly fun of the sheep. It's definitely worth geeting and reading more than one of the sheep books, in part so you can learn the distinct personalities of the various sheep.

I bought this book for my 18-month old. It's still a bit beyond her--she's still very into the lift-and-peek books. From mommy's perspective, however, I can say that this is one of the most inventive, clever stories I've read. The illustrations of the disgusted kitties make me laugh out loud every time I read the book, and the rhymes are sweet and funny.

The only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars is that my husband and duaghters don't seem to like it as much as Sheep in a Jeep. I found it charming, well illustrated and well told. I was disappointed that it was a paperback and not a board book. I might not have bought it if I had realized that because my daughters are a bit rough on books.

Another in a series of books about curious sheep on an adventure. The book is about sheep coming to a quaint tea shop to eat out. Children will relate to the funny predicaments here because the sheep try and try to fit in, but really don't know proper manners. Well written and very nice illustrations that children of all ages will enjoy.

Our son not as interested yet in this one, but perhaps soon...,

This is our third sheep book. We have Sheep in a Jeep and Sheep in a Shop. My 2 year old likes the sheep but hasn't quite gotten into this one yet. I think he will when he starts to understand more about manners when you are out to eat. He knows all about please and thank you, but we don't go out to eat very much, and so it's not as familiar to him. It's just a matter of time, I'm sure.

very cute, fun to read aloud,

This is my favorite of the sheep books, with sheep in a jeep ranking close behind. The rhymes are simple and fun to read aloud. The vocabulary is challenging for a preschooler. The illustrations are clever. However, I pick it to read aloud more often than my daughter does.

I love this series of books! My son and I found these books at the library and liked them so much that I ordered a copy of them for our own. In this book the sheep go to a restaurant and make a mess only to discover that the lawn is what they want for lunch.
With rhythm and rhyme, the words are easy to read out loud. I never grew tired of reading this book to my children. As a matter of fact, I still read it to them now after owning the book for five years. It's always important to me to have books my children like to have read to them, but also ones that I enjoy reading to them. I have to spend so much time reading to them that I would prefer the books I read to be enjoyable for me as well. This fits that very well.

They're at it again!,

Those crazy sheep are nothing but an accident looking for a place to happen! They can't keep out of trouble, and that just tickles my 5yo son and I into hysterics. The entire batch of sheep books -- and the only thing wrong with them is there's just not ENOUGH of them -- are just as funny the first time they're read as they are the 20th time. They're a great source for the "what do you think will happen next?" prompt, the "what do you think they should have done instead?" prompt, and for reading lessons as well.

SIMPLY A FUN BOOK TO READ WITH YOUR CHILD.,
This review is from: Sheep Out to Eat (Sandpiper paperbacks) (Paperback)
Again, our adventurous sheep find themselves completely out of their element and in a world of trouble. This is a great addition to a great series. This time our little band of sheep decide to go out for lunch and visit a local tea room. While this work can be classified as a beginner reader, I have to admit that I was laughing and smirking just as much as the kids when I read this one to them. The illustrations are of the usual high quality that Margot Apple has offered us in the past and the text is absolutely delightful and goes perfectly with those illustrations. This is a fun to book to read to the entire class, or a good one to read with your child one on one. Actually, I found absolutely nothing to not like about this work.
