Entertaining, though not as wonderful as "Sheep in a Jeep",

I absolutely adore Nancy Shaw's other boardbook "Sheep in a Jeep", and for months now my 10 month old has laughed aloud every time anyone says, "Beep! Beep! Sheep in a Jeep...", so I really looked forward to getting him "Ship in a Shop"... On the one hand, it's very cute, and the illustrations are utterly endearing with lots of color and detail, but on the other hand it lacks some of the rhythm and rhyme of Jeep which put it so high above the level of other boardbooks. It's cute and clever -- really an excellent book -- but Jeep had raised the bar so high, I suppose it was difficult to measure up.But it's still a lovely little book, and certainly worth owning.

We got a copy after enjoying Sheep in a Jeep. I actually like this one better than Sheep in a Jeep because the sheep end up being resourceful rather than just reckless.

Wonderful!,

My sister-in-law bought this book for my daughter because her sons liked it so much. My daughter loves it too. At age 22 months, this is her favourite bedtime book. She will hunt for it rather than have me read another book. She is beginning to like "Sheep go out to Eat" almost as much. (She calls it "Sheep Soup".) She does not seem terribly interested so far in "Sheep in a Jeep". She gets very excited every time we get to the bit where the stack of beach balls falls down, shouting "Uh oh!", and she understands that the story is about shopping for a birthday present because she will sing "Happy Birthday" if she is turning the pages on her own.

Feeling Sheepish?,

This review is from: Sheep in a Shop (Board book)
Having a 7 month old son and two other older children, I have seen my share of board books. I like to consider myself an expert on the truly good children's book. Nancy Shaw's delightful sheep have met all my marks. They are a delight not only for children, but for parents as well. The gently cadenced prose coupled with Margot Apple's witty illustrations holds more than just a giggle for the tiny tots. I appreciate it when an author is able to pair rhyme for the toddlers with underlying humor for the older set.

Sheep with a sense of humor!,

This review is from: Sheep in a Shop (Board book)
These books are probably more fun for the parent or adult that is reading them. The sheep stories by Margot Apple and Nancy Shaw have the potential to cultivate a sense of humor even in the most serious young mind. The writing is fun and witty, the illustrations make one laugh aloud.

HMMM, SHEEP DO THINK...I LIKE IT!,
This review is from: Sheep in a Shop (Board book)
This is another delightful book and is a part of a delightful series. The author and illustrator obviously work so well together. This time, as the title would indicate, our little herd of sheep visit a shop. They find they have not money, but unlike sheep (and so many people, when to think about it) come up with a very unique way around the problem. The rhyming text is as good as it gets and goes perfectly with the charming illustrations. The kids all seem to love this one and I must admit to enjoying it as much as they do when reading it to them. The only problem I have is that some of the rhyming lines stick in my head like a broken record, which, in a way, is sort of nice. recommend this one highly.

I enjoy all the "sheep" books by this author. I am a new mom of a 2 month old. I am also an early childhood teacher. I think her sheep books are funny and great for learning inital consonants and blend. My little one watches my mouth when I read the books...I can tell he likes it.

Our son (almost 2) LOVES Nancy Shaw's Sheep books, and this one is no exception. Such a cute story, great rhyming text, and great illustrations. This book is a definite must-buy.

Love the Sheep. Love the Shop.,

My 2 year old son had Sheep in a Jeep first, and I decided to add more since he has such a good time with that one, acting out the pushing of the Jeep and the weeping when the Jeep is finally beyond help. Sheep in a Shop bumped Sheep in a Jeep off his list of favorite books for awhile, although Jeep is making a comeback. He especially likes to reeaaach up like the sheep trying to get the ball, and he likes the part with the piggy bank. It renewed his interest in his own piggy bank, and we never seem to have change cluttering the counters anymore. My son will immediately ask to put it in his piggy bank whenever he sees money now. This makes my husband especially happy, as it encourages fiscal responsibility. :)

We loved how the sheep destroyed the store just choosing something, then didn't have enough to pay for their purchase!
