Sheep Take a Hike,
By A Customer
This review is from: Sheep Take a Hike (Hardcover)
This is another of the fantastic "Sheep" Books by Nancy Shaw. In this adventure the sheep go for a hike in the woods, lose the trail and then get lost. Do they find their way out of the forest? I love their surprising ending. I have loved following the five sheep and their seagull friend through their adventures. Young children who read with me love to look for the seagull, to spot the sheep with the knitting, and to find the rhymes on every page. The books are easy reading for the newest readers, with beautiful pictures on every page.

the illustrations are nice. Not exactly realistic but clear and uncluttered, not an exagerated cartoonish style of so many children's books. the text and story line are creative. The rhyming and rhythem are fun. But why does everything always go wrong in these books? My son doesn't like them for this reason. All of the sheep books are theme he should like but he doesn't enjoy them at all because calamity after calamity and then the story ends. No fun times or successes. Problems, a few solutions and promlems. Nothing to attract him to the books. He does enoy stories where their is a problem or a challenge and then solutions. Anyway, I wish he like them because they are nicely illustrated and creative. Just too negative and a little scary. this review could be for any of the series, whether the jeep wrecks, the storm aboard ship and subsequent sinking of the ship (and why are they pirates?!), lost in the woods and rained on...etc!

Being avid hikers, we just HAD to buy this book after our Son fell in love with Sheep in a Jeep. Unfortunately, other than the general theme of misadventures of a group of kind spirited sheep friends...they had little in common. The rhyming scheme is loose and my son shows little interest in this book. I still plan to check out others of "the Sheep" series.

The jeep series illustrations are always fabulous but the text doesn't quite live up to Sheep in a Jeep. It's still worth getting. I just wish it came as a board book.

Humorous and realistic story about a group hike,

This book is a hit with the 3-year-old I gave it to and with me. The rhymes are delightful, and the story describes the kinds of adventures and challenges that make hiking fun: route finding, weather, soggy snacks, group dynamics. It's a great way to prepare a child for what hiking involves

Sheep Take a Hike is a charming, fun-filled walk in the woods with the popular group of sheep from previous Nancy Shaw books (the first was Sheep in a Jeep). These sheep decide to take a hike but lose their way. Not to worry, they solve their dilemma in a creative way and all's well that ends well. Clever plot and rhymes for young children and beginning readers.

Yup, another sheep book.
They're all cute books, but there's not much to say about any individual one. They go out on a hike, everything rhymes, things go ALL WRONG, they find their way home anyway, and we have a rhyming happy ending. (Yay!) Good for early readers and toddlers alike.

We like to hike, we love Sheep in a Jeep, this one does not get as much read time, it is fun here and there but not as good as the original.
