2.0 out of 5 stars Not as Blissful a Read as its title would suggest, October 25, 2003
This review is from: Sheer Blue Bliss (Hardcover)
Sheer Blue Bliss, by Lesley Glaister, is a novel about a dead philosopher, his painter-lover, and an obsessive disciple. The dead philosopher, Patrick Mount, disappeared thirty years ago. Constance Benson, his painter-lover painted one last portrait of him before his disappearance, her last painting. Thirty years later, Constance's portraits will be in display in London, where Tony, the obsessive disciple sees them. Thus, Tony and Constance's lives collide.
This book was advertised as a 'thriller' though it doesn't live up to its name. The narrative is choppy and different. Glaister does not seem to know how to use commas. Her style is original (in lack of a better word) though it was a little hard to follow. It is set in present day, with numerous flashbacks---that proved more interesting than the 'modern day plot' itself. If you really feel compelled to read this book, Bloomsbury (the publisher) was giving away free copies to book club members, which is how I got the book.

In short, Sheer Blue Bliss is not as blissful a read as its title would suggest.
