5.0 out of 5 stars She(ezus)'s ba-ack! May 12, 2014
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Lily Allen is back and in fine form. Every song on the album is great. As always, her biting humor is spot on. The music reflects both current and retro styles without sounding derivative. There's even a zydeco song! Had the album for nearly a week and I have it on repeat. I don't think I've skipped a track the whole time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Genius May 13, 2014
By RJ77JR
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
In this CD Lily does a tongue and cheek Brit version of the R&B-Pop Americans seem to enjoy so much. As typical per Lily the songs all sound so light and bubbly until you pay attention to the lyrics which vary from criticism of modern culture to light songs about love, to teen angst. Another home run for Lily.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tries Too Hard (But Sometimes Succeeds) May 7, 2014
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Even more than Allen's previous albums, Sheezus is a bit of a mess. Songs like the title track, the early single "Hard Out Here", "Silver Spoon". "Insincerely Yours", and "URL Badman" are heavy-handed, overly self-referential, and only fun in small doses. But dig a little deeper and there are some delightful moments that make the album worthwhile.

"Air Balloon" is the best of the singles released so far. Lyrically, it's as light as helium, but it provides a welcome contrast to the aforementioned tracks. "Our Time" is the anthemic soundtrack to the last hours of a night out on the town--not a song that will make you sit up and take notice, but pleasant enough in its own way. (Possibly the most conventional track on the album, it wouldn't be out of place in Katy Perry's catalog.)

"Close Your Eyes" is a slow jam with a pleasant groove and playful lyrics. Musically, it's spot-on, complete with auto-tuned effects, and I could see myself spinning it at 3 am for the right crowd. But the lyrics are full of Allen's trademark humor. Has anyone in pop music history ever urged their lover to ride them "like a bike"? Allen is at her best on this album when she's celebrating life with her new husband and children, as she does on this track and on "As Long As I Got You", which sets aside the electro-pop formula to revel in slide guitar and a rhythm track straight out of Louisiana. Despite the silly title, "L8 Cmmr" has a similar theme.

"Take My Place", which seems to be about Allen's problems with a miscarriage and a stillbirth before the birth of her two children, almost seems out of place on this album. But "Life for Me"--possibly the best track here--is similarly sincere, if much more upbeat.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lily Allen is SHEEZUS!!! May 6, 2014
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Not as good as her first two album but still pretty good. The album is better than most(if not all) the stuff on the radio nowadays so that's a plus. When I pre-ordered, I got the clean version of the Autorip so watch out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Vocals, Clever Lyrics July 5, 2014
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
As a 50 year old male, I am certainly not in Lily Allen's target demographic.

I heard one of the songs from her second album on the radio and was intrigued by her excellent voice with it's British twang, and by her clever lyrics. I was interested enough to buy the album. I was pleasantly surprised by the extent that I liked it, so I bought the first album. It was a no-brainer to buy this (the 3rd) one.

Some songs clearly are intended for teen and young women, but even those feature sharp lyrics and great vocals.

By Chloe
Format:Audio CD
Last time we saw Lily Allen, she dropped her 2nd album, 2009's 'It's Not Me, It's You', made a guest appearance on P!nk's single "True Love" (taken from P!nk's 2012 album 'The Truth About Love') and went through a brief stage name change (to Lily Rose Cooper - her married name, mind you). During her so-called "hiatus", Ms. Allen married and had 2 children. During this time period, Allen also dealt with the problems of a miscarriage and a stillbirth before the birth of her two children (which she sings about on the track "Take My Place").

And now Allen drops her highly-anticipated 3rd effort, entitled 'Sheezus' (the title paying homage to/a wordplay on Kanye West's 2013 album 'Yeezus'), Allen shows her audience that, since motherhood, her music hasn't softened. Allen has definitely NOT gone cutesy by penning happily ever after/Taylor Swift-esq lyrics. Instead, Allen is back in full-force with a new collection of tongue-in-cheek, sarcastic/smart@$$, explicit-laden tunes (delivered w/ her trademark deadpan humor).

To prove that she has not gone soft:

"Sheezus" - The title track's chorus has Allen name-checking flavors of the moment (in order): Rihanna, Katy Perry, Beyonce and Lorde. Throughout the song, she taunts her audience and demands, "gimme me the crown, b-, I wanna be Sheezus".

"L8 Cmmr" - Allen professes her love for her husband, Sam Cooper, by saying he's a "bad motherf-".

"Insincerely Yours" - Allen name-checks (once again), this time British singer Rita Ora and decries, "I don't wanna know about your perfect life / Your perfect wife and it makes me sick / I don't give a f- about your Instagram / About your lovely house or your ugly kids".
