Editorial Reviews

This album features the drum solo/improvisation of two great drummers, Jim Keltner and Ron Tutt. James Newton Howard and his friends also join the fun and play Amuseum, The Higher You Rise, Wise To The Lines and Le Ballads. This recording has been used for audio component testing and evaluation because of its stunning dynamics and tone colors. If you ever attended some HiFi Show or visited an audiophile-oriented dealer you may have noticed that, for evaluation purposes, some strange recordings are very popular there. Audiophile recordings (CDs or LPs) contain excellently recorded musical tracks (Music, not noise) that can be successfully used to test and evaluate HiFi components and systems. This one is from Sheffield Records and LIM. This DXD CD replaces LIM 5. This is dynamics and sheer energy at their best. Musically, you have to love this Toto-style kind of Music. Now remastered and available on the new audiophile format known as DXD (Still playable on all CD Players) the sound is even better!

This disc is a MUST HAVE, you need the first 2 track to calibrate your system and other track to evaluate the sound reproduced by your system, you can bring it with you and help your friend (or play it in other audiophile's system) to maintain a "sound standard".

I've own it since the very old release (not by FIM), but I bought this and found that XRCD24 process did increase the clarity and detail much more.

Never miss it, or you're not serious about the sound?

Well, if you're looking at this that means you know what this disc is all about, setting up your system to its fullest potential. As a recording engineer this is a blueprint for killer tones as well.

The best transfer I have yet to hear - the original Sheffield transfer to CD sounds by comparison totally dead.

Ron Tutt and Jim Keltner are fantastic. This is a recording from 30 years ago, and is still considered a reference disc. It will tell you if your system is working properly, just make sure you have the volume at a safe level the first time you play the disc. You have to have this in your library.

The Sheffield Lab Drum & Track Disc (DXD Master) The drum solos on tracks 1 and 2 are what made me purchase this CD and are great tools to use to audition a 2-channel system and perhaps even a home theater system as well. This CD is not cheap, but because it's so well recorded makes it not a bad deal for the audiophile or technician looking to test out a hi-fi system.
