This book was a page turner from beginning to end. Kristi weaves her magic again to create a captivating story full of humor, high stakes rollercoaster adventure, and scorching sexual chemistry. Darin Shakir and Fiona Powers...fiery!I was really looking forward to the release of this book and let me tell you, it was well worth the wait. Thanks Kristi, I enjoyed the ride!

Tracker Darin Shakir worked alone. The mysterious Cattleman's Club member had been burned in the past and he wasn't about to see innocents hurt on this mission. But plans had gone awry - he'd wound up injured, and in bartender Fiona Powers's capable hands. The feisty redhead was more than a match for this brooding sheikh and insisted on helping Darin. But his temporary, sexy new partner was a very tempting distraction Darin didn't want, even as he yearned to show Fiona the fiery attraction blazing inside.

As one who typically shys away from anything falling into thehyper-formulaic mold of "romance", I would also note that over the past few years a distinct handfull of writers in the genre have cro- pped up whose work exeudes an idionsyncratic panache rendering them nothing short of delicious. In my admittedly limited perspect- ive, K.G. is one such author. The seemingly meager 3 stars abo- ve takes its root in the oft-problematic prose in this novella and my own obstinant adherence to the near-obsolute four star system. Tact and pacing are frequently scattered to the wind throug- hout the book as Gold barrages us with a multitude of trysts and semi-quickies between hero Darin and heroine Fiona and while each is enchantingly steamy, Gold's frequent interruptions of these same scenes via supporting characters(from Darin's client to a be- llhop)efface them as either completly gratuitous or cack-handed attempts at comic relief. It's difficult to believe that this same auth- oress a mere few months ago so lucidly conveyed the smoldering telepathy between man and woman in "Expecting the Sheik's Ba- by"(also the only other work of hers I've had the pleasure of sa- mpling). In the hands of a more soulless scribe these conditions might prove fatal, but Gold's sparkling wit and hotter-than-coals chemis- try between Darin and Fiona(when she lets them the hell alone, that is) swiftly come to the rescue, wrapping itself up with a high- octane finale highlighting not only adventuorous sensibilites that would strike a chord with most guys, but a mastery of the farcial that I defy readers of either gender to not admire; the absurd and the erotic can in fact co-exist. |
