5.0 out of 5 stars A Compelling Reunion Story with Unexpected Twists, January 20, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: The Sheikh's Bidding (The Bridal Bid) (Paperback)
When a mysterious man bids for Andrea Hamilton's services at a charity auction, she is jolted to find her past coming back to haunt her in the form of Sheik Samir Yaman. Ten years have passed since they shared a night of grief and passion after Andi's brother died unexpectedly. But Sam is back and Andi must come to terms with her secret-their son.

Although Sam hated leaving his best friend's sister all those years ago, he had no choice but to return to his homeland and his duties as the heir. Now Sam vows to get to know the son he only recently learned about. Neither Sam nor Andi is prepared for the intensity of their feelings for one another. But Sam is facing an impending arranged marriage and is forced to choose between his duty and his heart.

One of the most compelling aspects of this reunion story is the emotional journey of a couple from two different worlds. This modern-day prince is torn between his responsibilities to his country and his love for an American woman and their special son. In many respects, Sam is reminiscent of aristocratic British heroes found in historical romances, for like the dukes and earls of Regency England, Sam is honor-bound to fulfill his destiny as the heir. That destiny takes on a special twist in this contemporary setting.

Kristi Gold has created memorable and lovable characters who face seemingly impossible odds for a lasting relationship. This sensual yet tender story grips the reader from the first sentence until the very end and includes a few surprises along the way. The Sheikh's Bidding is another shining example of Kristi Gold's ability to interweave highly emotional elements with humor and passion.

4.0 out of 5 stars Duty versus Love, September 9, 2003

This review is from: The Sheikh's Bidding (The Bridal Bid) (Paperback)
The night of her brother's funeral Andrea spends one night with her brother's best friend Sam. They've always loved each other but neither would admit it. The next day Sam leaves without a word and she doesn't hear from him for seven years. He returns when he finds out they have a son and that's when she finds out he's a prince, heir to the throne.

I loved Andi, a great mom and a wonderful person. Sam was a man who talks about always doing the honorable thing. His actions with Andi however, were far from honorable. He took her virginity, had unprotected sex with her, vanished and never contacts her again. He "keeps track" of her over the years but instead of doing it personally he has someone else do it for him. Perhaps if he'd done it himself he would have known about Chance all along. He plans an arranged, "royal" marriage to give his kingdom an heir? What exactly was Chance? Why not just ask Andi to go back with him, marry him and legitimize his son? He gave the impression that Andi & Chance weren't good enough for anymore than the occassional visit. He wasn't malicious or arrogant about it but just didn't seem to understand what truly mattered. Ultimately Sam had to realize that respect for himself and the people who truly cared about him meant more than respect for his father and his duty.

4.0 out of 5 stars Be Touched By Gold... Again, January 28, 2003

This review is from: The Sheikh's Bidding (The Bridal Bid) (Paperback)
Andi Hamilton offered her horse training services at a charity auction. When a mysterious sheikh won them she was curious. When she discovered who the sheikh was, she was alarmed. They had shared a moment of grief and a night of passion years before. Why has Sam come back into Andi's life so many years later? Will Andi let him back in? And will she tell him that their passion resulted in a son? Ms. Gold writes with her usual passion, charm and touch of gold and has given her readers another story of true love and happily ever after.
