5.0 out of 5 stars Another terrific read from a very talented author!
Jane Porter is an author with amazing talent and THE SHEIKH'S WIFE is just another testament to this fact. Full of riveting emotions and page-turning, bone-melting passion, readers will not soon forget such a wonderful story.

THE SHEIKH'S WIFE takes the drama of romance, arresting characterization, and sizzling sexual tension to new heights for this sub-genre. Ms. Porter's writing style is crystal clear and smooth as silk. The plot was intriguing and certainly full of twists which can leave the reader guessing... and feeling pleasantly surprised too.

For those who enjoy stories about alpha males, this book will force you to put life on hold until you've reached the very last page... and then you'll want to start reading it all over again. It's that good! Don't miss it.

2.0 out of 5 stars avoid & deny -- 2.5, June 21, 2011
One week before her wedding, heroine is stunned when told by sheikh Hero that they're still married. Hero becomes stunned himself when he finds out that they have a son together. He whisked her off to his Middle East kingdom with intent of keeping their son with him, whether she stays with him or not. Heroine chooses to stay for her son's sake & b/c she still loves Hero. The reappearance of Hero's cousin makes her wonder if Hero will change his mind about staying married to her once his cousin spreads his lies about their past r/s.

This Porter book was emotionally-involving & had good sexual tension & sex scenes. But it had a faulty romance & faulty characters. Their romance was flawed mostly b/c Hero & heroine gave Hero's cousin a lot of power over their r/s. They believed what he said without discussing them with each other. Instead of confronting each other, Hero chooses to be mad & hurt by heroine and heroine chooses to runaway. Their reactions both highlight their pride, emotional immaturity, & preferences to avoid & deny. As in love as they were supposed to be with each other, Hero doesn't go after heroine & heroine soon finds another man to depend on. Even at the end, neither of them openly discuss how Hero' cousin almost raped her. They still chose to avoid. Heroine was a good, protective mother to her son. But, when it came to men, she was needy, attention-seeking, & spoiled.

Minimal recommendation.

Bryn didn't realize - they are still husband and wife! She knows she can't deny Ben the daddy's he's been asking for. So she agrees to return to Kahlil's desert kingdom. There she finds herself consigned to the harem quarters, where she must prepare for being taken back...into the Sheikh's bed!

5.0 out of 5 stars I just couldn't put it down!, December 1, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
First of all, I LOVED this book!

Secondly, if you are not into Dominant Alpha males, then this book just isn't for you, period.

I could just so completely relate to the character of Bryn, and her husband, Khalil ... well, let's just say he's the stuff that dreams are made of!

Other reviewers have commented that Khalil was a little to harsh in the beginning, and while I do think the author, Jane Porter, did push the envelope a little, she doesn't go so far that you're just not finding the alpha male lead attactive anymore. As things turn out, although he was hard on Bryn, by the end of the novel, you're loving him as much as Bryn does.

Kudos to Miss Porter for creating the character of Bryn, where it was just so easy to project myself into her shoes. This is a real page turner, and I read most of it in one sitting. Best of all, this book does not rely on a lot of gratuitous sex to pull together weak characters and a boring, rehashed plot. What is best about Bryn is that she's willing to do whatever it takes to make her troubled marriage work. She's willing to say and do things that I might hesitate to say and do, but deep down inside, might really want to. That's why I got such a great feeling when I finished this book, but at the same time, I was let down to. I wish it had been twice as long as it was.

I'm glad i did Sheikh Kahill SEEMS LIKE JUST A ANGRY PERSON,
i did not like the way her treated Bryn but you stripe away all that and you have a good story this took me 4 hours to read i was surpise how time went by and how quick the book finish thats how into the book i was...
If your comfortable with these type of storylines where the heroine might get some harsh treatment from the hero then feel free to read IF NOT then this ain't the book for you...

4.0 out of 5 stars An Emotional Read, May 23, 2002
I recently discovered this author and find her books fascinating in that they aren't typical. This story is emotional, the hero strong and gritty. I found the love story touching in that it wasn't predictable. If you are tired of the usual fluff, give this author a try.

3.0 out of 5 stars Can Bryn resist her husband?, April 19, 2004
Leaving her husband, Sheikh Kahlil al-Assad, was the most difficult thing Bryn ever did. Now, three years later, she's shocked when he walks back into her life...

Kahlil clearly hasn't forgiven Bryn for abandoning her marriage vows, and when he discovers he has also missed the first three years of his son's life, he's even more determined to take revenge. This means using the intense sexual chemistry that still exists between them! Will Bryn be able to resist her husband...and then will he be able to walk away ?

1.0 out of 5 stars Very Disappointing, May 6, 2002

This book was breath takingly bad. It starts out with a lot of promise and then falls flat. The main characters fail to grab you. Sheikh Kahlil al-Assad is too hard. He never really develops any kind of relationship with his son and treats Bryn, his wife, like she is dirt, unless they are in bed. Bryn on the other hand comes off as very weak and not at all real. A woman who runs away from her husband with nothing, as she did three years before, would not beg and cry and act like Bryn does throughout the story. The endng is also poorly written. It was very rushed and too easy. There is no confrotation between Bryn and Amin, or Amin and Kahlil. All in all it is a book that is not worth the time it takes to read. I only finished reading it because I kept thinking it HAD to get better. It didn't.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not so great, December 16, 2009

I have read two of Jane Porter's books before this one: The Sultan's Bought Bride and Duty, Desire, and the Desert King. They are both really good books. I bought this one expecting it to be just as good. It wasn't.

I saw a preview a few years ago of a movie called "Not Without My Baby." The preview was so upsetting that I didn't see the movie, although I'm sure the movie was gripping and thought-provoking. Part of this book reminded me of that upsetting preview and was hard to read. I'm also not sure that the changes in the characters' desires and personalities rang true. Yes, there was some great sexual tension, but all in all the book was quite disappointing.

I look forward to reading more of Jane Porter's books - hopefully the next one I read will be more rewarding like the other two I mentioned above. As for this one, I will probably give it away so that I don't waste my time again reading it.
