4.0 out of 5 stars Really cute, especially for the price
I purchase toys for homeless kids and this was really a hit. I would never guess it was so inexpensive... delivered! It may not be in tune, but it's fun, durable, colorful and the kids love it. You can play it with the keys, or use the hammer on the keys (not much sound hammering the colored plates though) and you can hammer the colored balls, that play sounds as they...

2.0 out of 5 stars Out of tune
I bought this because we wanted to purchase a xylophone for our little guy, it was a "Hot Deal" and offered free shipping so we could get it delivered quickly since we were ordering baby gates too. It's bright and attractive and our little guy likes banging on it...but it is out of tune, which drives us nuts. I don't expect the world from a kid's xylophone, but it would...

It's bright and attractive and our little guy likes banging on it...but it is out of tune, which drives us nuts. I don't expect the world from a kid's xylophone, but it would be nice if the different keys made different sounds -- ideally, progressively going through some type of range. We should have spent the extra $5 for the one from Fisher Price ($14 w/shipping on eBay). My SIL has one of those and it sounds just fine after being well-used for two years.

This is a great toy, lots of fun. My daughter loves pounding away on the musical notes as well as the balls. Plus, she loves to take the balls out & throw them around. Gave it a 3 on educational level, because I am doubtful that any toy can be "educational" in and of itself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Playing Beautiful Music & Having Fun, September 20, 2007

My daughter Sofia absolutely loves her xylophone. She spends hours banging at the music keys, putting the balls in their place, banging the balls through the hole and then listening to them play a note when they fall through. She loves this thing and it is so safe and durable. This is one of her favorites and one of ours because it keeps her entertained while we get things done around the house. I highly recommend this toy. You can also use it to spend time with the baby, teaching him/her colors by having him/her match up the balls to the corresponding color slot.

I bought this when my first was a baby because I wanted the super saver shipping with the Jack in the Box that I bought. My baby ended up loving this way more than the Jack in the box! It was her favorite toy for a long time! Now, 3 years later, my youngest loves it also!

When we bought this product, we didn't expect much out of it. We just thought our 4 months old would enjoy the sounds of a xylophone. It surprised us that he really likes to hammer the colorful balls and enjoys the sounds they make when they hit the xylophone keys. He is now 2 and even now this toy keeps him busy for at least 15 minutes. It helped him learn hand coordination, colors, color matching and making musical notes. This is a very safe and a sturdy toy. Highly recommended.

This toy was in great demand by the preschoolers present. They really loved pushing the balls down and hearing the chimes. It has great play value, but we were disappointed with the chimes, they were not chromatic, 2 of the chimes had the same tone. I'm sure the children didn't mind but the educational value would be much greater it went up the scale.

Bought this for my son when he was about 7 months and now that he's more than 16 months, he still plays with it. I cannot find the balls it came with or the hammer as a matter of fact, but he still bangs on it with his hands and fingers and the sound is still good. He absolutely loves it and never gets bored.

This toy is not musical at all, and only has six notes, but it is a good introduction for babies, because they can whap the keys with their hands and make noise. The three balls are challenging in that they just barely fit through their holes, so your child can either push them through manually or practice pounding skills with the included hammer. My son, when he was 7 or 8 months, would actually pry the balls up from their resting places in the holes, instead of pushing them through, but a few months later he became better at pushing them through. He's learning things like color matching, and that sometimes things only go one way.

A drawback - the middle ball can block the far left ball from rolling out because there's not enough clearance between it and the slope. But that's another problem my son can figure out when he decides to. (You will also likely see your child putting other things through the hole, to see if they will fit and if they will roll.) If you want a truly musical toy, I recommend the Glockentoddler, which has an 8-note scale and is useful for kids who have figured out how to use tools a bit better (i.e. to bang things with). But this toy is good for other things and I recommend for older babies.
