I found this book very helpful in determining the most important issues in deciding how to make mutual funds work for you. The information is presented in a straight forward way and tries to present the pros and cons of different buying options. It certainly helps you feel informed enough to make a decision.

After realizing disappointing results from professional advisors, we wanted to take over and manage our own retirement investments. Jacobs books were the first we found that gave a concise outline of the basic material that we needed to understand in order go foreward. With what we initially learned from Jacobs, we were able to significantly improve our returns while our former professional manager eventually closed up shop.

Jacobs book is an excellent starting point. While it is not presented in an entertaining style, it is readable and held my interest long enough to get the basics. I subscribed to his newsletter for a while but lost interest when I realized that he had promoted himself to Guru.

If you are looking for a low-hype place to learn sound principles for investing in Mutual Funds, I'd recommend this book in a heartbeat.
