The Shelf Elf deserves recommendation as a fine and different Christmas picturebook tale. Skoob the Shelf Elf just finished his work with the shoemaker and is ready to start on a new career in the library - but first he must learn Library Etiquette. From book care to behavior, Skoob finds there's more to learn about a library than how to locate a book - and he's determined to win the Golden Shelf Elf Award in the process. A rhyming text paired with Rebecca Thornburgh's fun drawings invites kids to learn more about the library.

This is a fine book for children. It has everything ... fun, excitement, magic and a big dose of education ... education not crammed down a child's throat, but presented with help from the magical, lovable elves.

Children learn library etiquette from this book ... valuable knowledge when they're first learning to read that will make their library adventures much more enjoyable.

I loved the book and have "shelf elf helps out"and ordered the matching shelf elf plush and golden shelf elf trophy (less than $2.00, made of foam) to go with it. We now have a "golden shelf elf award" every week for 1-3rd and 4-6th grade. Keeps them motivated to keep things quiet, tidy and neat! It's posted outside our Library door where everyone can see it...

I must say that I was quite pleased to receive this book so quickly, which was in the "Nick of time" for Christmas! My youngest children enjoyed the story, but I think the fact that it focused on the library classification system made it not quite as interesting for casual reading.
I am going to donate this book to my daughter's kindergarten teacher or school media specialist. I feel that it is an excellent teaching story of the library and how it is organized, and it makes this somewhat dull topic fun. The fact that it comes with lesson plans makes it that much better for the elementary classroom.

I love the book. It is a great book for K-2. Students get into the story and love the little elf. I made lots of photocopies of the shelf elf and I give them to the students for their good behavior in the library.

What a fun concept! Children awake and begin looking for the elf who is watching them to report to S. Claus. It's fun for the whole family, and the fun continues year after year. Put the kit on top of your decorations so he can be the first one out. My grandchildren love it.

Very nice book! Loved it. Very good idea to help children learn to use their libraries effectively. GREAT idea!

I thought I was purchasing the book about the Christmas Elf who watches over children and reports back to Santa each night... this is not it. This book is about Elves who help keep library books properly shelved. The other book is called "Elf on the Shelf".
