An odd, fascinating entry in the BOOKS ABOUT BOOKS genre,

This review is from: Shelf Life (Hardcover)
Bookstores as a background in fiction is rare. And just as scarce in the Books About Books genre. This makesSHELF LIFE unique: a set of stories where bookstores form the central character. But what sets SHELF LIFE apart is that the stories here are not just tales of suspense and mystery set in bookstores, but Ray Bradbury/Ramsey Campbell-ish bookstore-tales of fantasy, wit and horror. This anthology is a marvelous find for anyone interested in this sort of bookish thing (and I am interested in this sort of bookish thing) evoking other fantastic tales featuring bookstores - Laurence Cosse's A Novel Bookstore, Otto Penzler's anthology, Christmas at the Mysterious Bookshop, Sheridan Hay's The Secret of Lost Things and Zoran Zivkovic's The Last Book. |
