Jack McDermott loved being a cop and he was good at his job until a bullet threatened to kill his dream forever. He is working to try and get back the strength in his hand and leg so that he can continue his job. He was thrilled that his cousin, best friend, and fellow cop asked for his help. Jack was unprepared for the hurt beauty he was now supposed to protect. He was even more unprepared for the feelings that she stirred up in him. Libby Stratton has had a hard lonely life. She has learned not to count on anyone but herself. But Jack McDermott was different than most people she knows. He is her hero, the man that saved her, and vows to protect her. Libby and Jack are each battling the hurt and pain of their pasts. But, the danger that surrounds their lives in the present brings them closer and closer together. They can continue to fight their attraction for each other or give in to a love that they both deserve. This is a great story with several layers. Jack and Libby along with a healthy dose of secondary characters provided a captivating story with both mystery and romance.
