A good lesson in love for any child,

This review is from: The Shelter Dog (Hardcover)
This book is so sweet and original. I loved the art work and the lovely story about "Hero", the little angel/shelter doggy with a heart of gold. This is a good lesson for all children concerning the idea that a pet has to be bought from a store, or breed to perfection to be worth anything. The book drives home the the message that all dogs, even that lowly, old mutt at the pound, deserve to be loved and are capable of giving an immense amount of love in return. Buy this book for that special child and read it to them. This is the kind of story I remember reading as a child and Lord knows kids today need this kind of story to grow up on...

This a magical heartfelt book for all ages,
This review is from: The Shelter Dog (Hardcover)
My dog and faithful companion was adopted from the county shelter.
He had such a big heart and gentleness to his spirt. I believe he knew what it meant to be adopted and lived each day with the sheer joy of being with me. The Shelter Dog is a must read for anyone who has ever adopted a dog or loves dogs. It is a magical heartfelt book for all ages that brought me fond memories of my own dog.

This review is from: The Shelter Dog (Hardcover)
The Shelter Dog is a gentle picturebook especially recommended for young dog lovers. Hero, a dog enjoying the afterlife, asks the Shelter Angel if she could send him back to an earthly animal shelter. After all, Hero considers, what could be better than to be selected from a shelter by a loving family. She warns him that not all the animals in the shelter find happiness, but he is resolute in taking the chance. [...]. A heartwarming story especially recommended to help young people become accustomed to the benefits of adopting an animal from a shelter, rather than buying from a breeder.

Should be Heartlighted Publishing!,

Christine donated 8 of The Shelter Dog books to DogsDeserveBetter.org. I read it with a tear in my eye, and then promptly ordered more! I love the happy ending, and as a graphic designer myself, couldn't be more tickled with the beauty and attention to detail given in all the type and illustrations. She is indeed talented!
What I most love about this book is that it holds a deeper meaning, it opens your heart to possibilities of a higher level, and it brings an important issue here on earth to light...that of the older shelter dog, so many times ignored, unadopted, and left to die. These books are genuinely for ALL ages to read and thoroughly enjoy. I know I did. Tammy S. Grimes, founder, Dogs Deserve Better

Christine Davis has done it again with her newest book, THE SHELTER DOG. She has captured the magical spirit between humans and their furry friends, this time turning the focus to shelter dogs; touching on both the plight they face and the promise they bring.
With its heartwarming message and colorful illustrations, this book makes a great gift. I have given it to all of my dog-loving friends, and keep a copy for myself close at hand. The next dog that comes into my life will be from a shelter.

The Shelter Dog by Christine Davis,
This review is from: The Shelter Dog (Hardcover)
The Shelter DogThis is a beautiful story that will be appreciated by dog lovers of all ages...it is the touching story of an elderly dog hoping for adoption and the stress of being an older dog in a shelter situation where elderly animals are so often passed by for the younger animals. The theme of the story is important for all people whether young or, like the dog Hero, well beyond middle age.

The Shelter Dog
What a great book! Kai is my Shar Pei rescue. He was dumped by his owner at the Animal Shelter right before Thanksgiving. I was asked to pick him up by a rescue group. We picked him up near death at 39#. The Shelter's vet had been unable to help him in his grief. We ended up adopting him instead of sending him on to a rescue foster home after falling in love with him. He weighs in at 66# now. Kai has brought so much love and blessing to our family. What a sweet, gentle boy he is. This book touched my heart as I read it and thought of our "Shelter Dog." It is a wonderful book for teaching children about the dogs in our local shelters. It would be a great public relations tool for animal shelters. And, it touched the heart of this person who lives each day in the companionship of a "Shelter Dog." I recommend this book for every family with children and for everyone who cares about the dogs who are not fortunate enough to have a loving home. Thank you, Christine Davis, for writing a book about dogs like my sweet Kaili. |
