Lisa Glatt is the best kind of bad girl: brave and vulnerable, grieving and tough. These poems hold up the female experience to a shard of mirror; look closely and take heart from the searing tenderness of her knowing, sensuous work. -- Kim Addonizio

5.0 out of 5 stars Shelter, August 2, 2000
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Shelter (Paperback)
Lisa Glatt will pull you into another world with this wonderful collection of poems. Glatt dares to juxtapose two subjects that are still taboo-sex and death. She weaves these together into a provocative portrayal of the obvious yet unspeakable relationship between two. I was so impressed and moved by this book that I bought copies for several friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book, January 2, 2003

This book is about so many things: The beauty of ugliness; the vulnerability of being alive; the things we all crave and how we mourn when we lose them. It is a wonderful book that is not to be overlooked. I'm eagerly awaiting Glatt's next book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Humorous and Haunting Collection, July 29, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Shelter (Paperback)
The amazing thing about Lisa Glatt's SHELTER is the transformation it goes through from beginning to end. In the first section, Glatt's perspective on love is whimsical and cynical as she recounts past relationships with Mr. Wrongs. SHELTER takes a 180 degree turn in the second section, which is dedicated to the death of the poet's mother. Poems like "Eggplant Dreams" and "The Body is in Charge" are poignant without falling into the pitfalls of sentimentality. The collection ends with a meaningful relationship and new awareness of life, with all its horrors and gifts.
