3.0 out of 5 stars A Hopeful Ending
I have enjoyed the House of Hope novels. They are not quite the "spiritual espresso" I found the Yada Yada books themselves to be, but the House of Hope books challenged and engaged me in a different manner. As a matter of fact, I ended up reading one of them while on a mission trip, feeding the homeless in Cincinnati. Also, we have a nearby homeless ministry called...

Who Is My Shelter? By Neta Jackson Published by Thomas Nelson

Every woman needs a safe shelter.

The tables have turned and Gabby's estranged husband--who threw her out when she didn't live up to his image of a "corporate wife"--needs her in a way neither ever expected. He's begging for reconciliation,

but Gabby has moved on, finding purpose and a future in the House of Hope. Not only has she found shelter for herself and her sons there,

but she's able to help provide shelter for homeless moms and their kids.

And yet . . . there's a hole in her life. Is God leading Gabby down a new path and giving her something--and someone--new? Or is He redeeming what she thought was gone forever?

My Thoughts: This is a heartwarming story about forgiveness and Gods grace. This is the fourth installment in a series that melts your heart and makes you think about what you hold dear to your heart. I really enjoyed it and will be looking for the previous three books in the series. The author really pulls you into Gabby's struggle as she tries to figure out what god wants for her. Does she trust her husband again and go back, or does she stick with the new life she has created for her and her children? I really like the cover art as well as the story itself and am glad to have it as an addition to my shelf.

Other Books in the Yada Yada House of Hope Series are.

*Who Do I Talk To? Yada Yada House of Hope Series #2

*Who Do I Lean On?, Yada Yada House of Hope Series #3

4.0 out of 5 stars Another Great Book from Neta Jackson, February 18, 2011
This review is from: Who Is My Shelter? (Yada Yada House of Hope, Book 4) (Paperback)
I have totally missed the first three books of this series - but after reading Who is My Shelter, I am going to quickly catch up.

Neta Jackson has a wonderful talent of being able to write stories of every day people and situations, yet written in such a way that by chapter 2 or 3, you feel like you've know these people your whole life and can totally relate to their circumstances.

Who is My Shelter follows Gabby Fairbanks as she learns to draw close to God and see Him as her fulfillment and not the men in her life.

4.0 out of 5 stars Always Inspiring, March 22, 2011

This review is from: Who Is My Shelter? (Yada Yada House of Hope, Book 4) (Paperback)
"Who is My Shelter" is the last of the four books in the "House of Hope" series. This wraps up all the unfinished storylines while creating new ones for another series Neta Jackson is plotting. The action takes place in Chicago, creating an abundance of places, people and things that aid in bringing these Christ based books to life.

Gabby Fairbanks is busy with her job at the woman's homeless shelter directing activities as well as running her House of Hope apartment complex for single mothers. Her two boys, P.J. and Paul, keep her hopping as do the eccentric, loveable characters that surround her whirlwind life. Paul Fairbanks Sr., Gabby's estranged husband, has gotten into major trouble with loan sharks because of his gambling, bringing serious danger to himself and his family. Lucy, street woman extraordinaire, has sprained her leg badly and needs rescuing. Mystery abounds with her and a young man named Will Nissan who helps find her hidden between walls of a recreation structure on Lake Michigan's beach. Harry and Estelle are having problems with their relationship because of Estelle's mentally ill son. These people, plus several others, keep the action flowing. Except.............

I couldn't give five star to this offering as I have others in this series. Frankly, it was about 60 to 80 pages too long. Halfway through the drama slipped into repetitive writing which caused a tiring lapse. I would also ask Ms. Jackson to speak to the copy editors at her publishing house; there were really grievous errors that shutdown the flow as well.

Bless, Ms. Jackson, that she pulled it out and picked up the pace in time to save this otherwise languishing story. The spirituality of Neta's writing is always beautifully presented and inspires my heart. I have read all of the "Yada Yada" series and now all "The House of Hope" books. I look forward to the "SouledOut Sister" series to come. Ms. Jackson and her husband Dave are fluent writers and I am simply amazed at how much they have published over the years. Bless them for their commitment in writing quality Christian fiction for all these years.

I loved this series.. I only wish Neta Jackson could write faster. I am so inspired by the twist and turns and the I didn't see that coming that this series portrays. I also am glad that the ending was not wrapped up in the expected but gave us hope that it was still good but different. I wait with baited breath for the next series of books.

Another great book by Neta Jackson! I'm sad to see the House of Hope series end, but looking forward to the Harry Bently Series as well as the new one coming soon from Neta.

What I loved about this book was the hope. The hope that Gaby wasn't totally finished with her marriage but the confusion with an added love interest. I loved the hope that Will had that they would find his Grandmother's sister. Although I felt a lot of loose ends were left, I know we will hear more about the characters in the other books.

Thank you Neta for another great book!

This series ends with this book.... I think. Great ending to a great series from Neta Jackson. I like that this book did not get all wrapped up in with a nice bow, but left a little room for imagination. It was well written and drew you in. In addition, Jackson continues to do a great job with imagery - you can really picture her characters. Great book!

I havent ever left a review on here before but no better time than the present... I ordered this book for my kindle last Friday and I was done by Sunday evening. After having read the whole Yada Yada Prayer Group Series I was anxious for more so I started this series. I finished all four within a few weeks. I cannot wait for book 5.

There is something very real and tender about Neta Jackson's books and certainly the characters in them. They are so relatable and realistic. I can imagine myself having the same thoughts as the character and even find myself crying while reading or even bursting out in laughter (which my husband just cannot understand). I have shared both of the series with friends and would not hesitate to buy another set for someone else.

As we go through life we get so busy there are times we forget to just give God control. Although it is not always easy because it is just in our nature to want to take care of things ourselves and talk to God later these books are a good reminder that with God we can take on anything and make it! To sum it all up simply... these books are a must read!!! God Bless!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Series, Nice ending, August 1, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is the fourth book in Neta Jackson's Yada Yada House of Hope Series. I strongly suggest that you read the first three books before this one, they're excellent!

In this book Gabby is trying to finally settle now an have a normal life in her new apartment. The problem is, nothing ever stays normal in the Yada Yada scene! Phillip is dealing with his casino debts, a young man shows up looking for his Great Aunt Cindy, Estelle gets cold feet about her relationship with Harry, and Lee keeps poping up in Gabby's life! In the midst of it all Gabby is reminded that God is her Rock and Shelter in the midst of the storm.

**SPOILERS** Review for those who have read the book!!

I really enjoyed seeing a pleasant change in Phillips character and how how began to treat Gabby nicely. I understand Gabby's confusion in choosing between Phillip and Lee, but I felt that that issue was left unresolved and I hated how Gabby kept playing with his emotions and never really dealt with him, but kept putting him off. I was also surprised that we were left hanging with the Lucy situation! No one every sees her again and we're left to assume that she's wandering the streets somewhere?! Come on.

As for the series as a whole, I loved the inclusion of Jodi, Denny, Estelle, Josh, Edesa, and Delores, but I would have loved to see more the Yada Yada Sisters! Stu is basically some mystery figure in the series, we get a brief mention of Florida, Yo-Yo and Ruth, and I don't remember Hoshi or Noni being mentioned at all. I understand that it was a different series, but we all like hear from old friends don't we?

Other than those three points, the book was lovely :)
