I've been monitoring the temperatures inside and it is very much warmer inside 101 Farenheit today inside and the high was about 67 outside. I covered all the flaps that reach the ground so that no wind would blow inside the greenhouse. Even during the wind storm the conditions inside were calm and warm - just noisy.
The only challenge I had was figuring out how to use the ratchets to secure the panels. I finally did, I think, but hope I can get them to loosen up in the spring for dismantling.
All in all, I would give this a 2 thumbs up for sure and look forward to many years of use.
I was thrilled when the greenhouse survived a cold and windy winter, as well as the following spring and summer thunderstorms. But today, as we face our first freeze, I finally learned this greenhouse's failure point - the zippers and adjoining seams. I haven't needed to close the zippers since the end of last winter. When I tried to close them tonight, they wouldn't budge. WD40 got them going, but then the seams where the zipper track is attached failed. It gave way like well-worn ground cloth. This first freeze won't be too bad, I'm once again in the position of having to find a solution.
I'm downgrading this item from five stars to two. It may be good for one winter, but don't count on it lasting for two.
I thought I'd lost the greenhouse last night. I was sound asleep around 3:00 AM when a line of severe thunderstorms associated with a cold front blew through my area. I don't know how high the winds got, but one particularly strong gust woke me up when it sounded as if my greenhouse, which sits next to my house just outside my bedroom window, was being shredded and/or uprooted. I quickly dressed and headed outside, expecting the worse, but the greenhouse was fine. It was shaking and shuddering and groaning and creaking and sounding like tall ship sails flapping in a gale, and I had a hard time getting back to sleep listening to all the commotion as the storm continued, but when morning dawned the greenhouse was intact, none the worse for wear.
Also, we experienced our first below-freezing weather a week or so ago, and I was surprised at how warm I was able to keep the greenhouse, using a 20,000 btu propane heater.Read more ›
