you can't ask for more,

This review is from: Sheltie Talk (Hardcover)
Of all the breed books I've ever read this book on shelties is the best. I've heard from many different people that it is considered the sheltie bible. I can see why. This book is excellent for the pet owner or the serious breeder. It covers illnesses, grooming(detailed w/pictures), birthing(including how to deal with complications), selling, buying, dewclaw removal, history, conformation and breed standard, etc. If you have a question about shelties most likely you will find the answer in this book. Want to know what you will get if you breed one color of sheltie to another? It's in there.Want to know how long until your puppies are due? In there. How big will your puppy get? Try the chart for an informed guesstimate. Some of the information can be used with other breeds as well. I applaud the authors. I only wish I could find one like this for my other breed of dogs.

A "must own" for all Sheltie lovers!,
By RCShelties@aol.com (Birmingham, AL, USA) - See all my reviews

If you have a Sheltie or are thinking of owning one, you NEED a copy of this book. It is the most comprehensive breed book I have ever seen and answers nearly every question you could have about Shelties. Breeders should include a copy with each puppy they sell. The ONLY reason I did not give it 5 stars is because most of the pictures are in black and white, and it needs to be updated to reflect current kennels and dogs. The publisher has been promising this for ages and has not re-done it (publisher and author is same person). Well worth the $$ and an excellent read! I show Shelties and always refer newcomers to this book for comprehensive information.

Shelties from top to bottom,

Recommended to anyone who is interested in the breed. I don't even own a Sheltie yet and I've read most of the book. It's a wealth of information to digest, so I recommend people to get it BEFORE the dog. The only thing it doesn't do is bark! It's full of interesting information, and it spans from the history of the breed to the career (herding) dog. Breeders and pet owners alike should get this book to make the most of their dog.

Shelty Talk is THE reference book to have if you can only afford one! We recommend it as MUST reading for anyone purchasing one of our babies. Even after 12 years of shelties, I still keep it close at hand. The answers are there!

The best there is!,

"Sheltie Talk" is the best Sheltie book out there, in spite of it's age (1985). I keep hearing rumors that there will be an updated edition, but I haven't seen it yet. I keep hoping. This book has more information than most people will ever need about the breed, and it's very accessible even to the novice owner. Give this one 'paws up'!

This book tells you absolutely everything you need to know about raising, breeding, training,showing... just plain owning a Shetland Sheepdog (sheltie). It has photos, instructions, and diagrams to cover everything. If you can afford only one book get Sheltie Talk. I can't say enough good things about it. 5 stars are not enough.

It is the Sheltie "bible" for all breeders. I recommend it to all puppy buyers. It is not only for breeders and exhibitors of Shelties but for the companion dog owner as well. I know people with other breeds that just LOVE this book and have it as well!Definately a FIVE star rating!!

Sheltie Talk,

This review is from: Sheltie Talk (Hardcover)
This is an EXCELLENT book for the new sheltie owner. Very in depth information, and very easy to read. Contains info for everything from bringing the new puppy home, to basics in obedience and agility training. Only reason she didn't get five ***** stars, is because she got a bit "windy" with long explanations, and it is so easy to read, they aren't necessary. You must have this book!:)

A must for the novice show person,
By Novice Sheltie Show Person (Taneytown, Maryland United States) - See all my reviews

This book was recommended to me by several breeders as the "Sheltie Bible" when I started to show mine. The book had a world of information at my fingertips. Info on how to pick your first show puppy, grooming and the different ring patterns you might experience at a show and everything in between. Also recommend the "Illustrated guide to Sheltie grooming" in addition to "Sheltie Talk".
