More About the Author

Janice Lane Palko grew up in Pittsburgh and is the author of the romantic comedy novel, St. Anne's Day, the Christmas romance, A Shepherd's Song, and her latest novel, a romantic suspense entitled Cape Cursed. A writer for nearly two decades, she is currently a featured writer with the website Popular Pittsburgh. She has served as the executive editor of Northern Connection and Pittsburgh 55+ magazines, where she also penned a column and contributed regularly to the magazines' content. Her work has also appeared in publications such as The Reader's Digest, Guideposts for Teens, Woman's World, The Christian Science Monitor, The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review and The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

In addition, her articles have been featured in A Cup of Comfort for Inspiration, A Cup of Comfort for Expectant Mothers, and Chicken Soup for the Single's Soul. Janice has won several awards for her writing including the prestigious Amy Foundation Award of Merit, and she has a bachelor's degree in Writing & Literature from Union Institute & University.

She also attended St. Benedict Academy, an all-girls, Catholic school. One of the inspirations for St. Anne's Day was the St. Anne prayer: Dear St. Anne, get me a man as fast as you can. Her social studies teacher, Sr. Jane Frances, taught it to her senior class so that all the girls would find prom dates. And they did!

Janice was inspired to write Cape Cursed by the move of the Cape Hatteras lighthouse. For many years, she and her family have vacationed on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, and although the book is a work of fiction, she has taken her love for the Carolina coast and created Cape Cursed.

I really liked this book. It's funny, serious, thought provoking and inspirational. I had no problem picturing the characters and being caught up in their lives and hoping all would turn out well. I think most people will identify with the the joys, worries and loved shared by this family...It is a perfect book to read to get in the holiday mood.

I liked the concept of the story. My biggest complaint is that the pace of the story moved along much too slowly for my taste. I fought to stay with it most of the way through.

Tom Shepherd wants to make some quick money without really working for it so he becomes a toy scalper along with his roommate. He is making a delivery to a church where a blood drive is being held for a young boy, Christo, who needs a transplant and ends up forced to give the toy to him. The media is there and catches Tom on camera and he is soon nicknamed the Good Shepherd...but he is anything but.

Gloria, Christo's relative, goes looking for Tom to thank him for making Christo so happy with the new toy, his Christmas Wish. Tom is bewitched by Gloria's beauty and he further lies to impress her. He asks her out on a date and this new relationship causes him to examine everything about himself. He finally begins to see himself as he really is.

What a delightful story! The main character is so beautifully developed. The story moves at first like there is something very urgent about to happen, then as it progresses pulls the reader into the heart of the character, and provides an ending that is so satisfying. This writer has something to say and says it so well. This is a reading experience that delights, entertains, moves one to reflection, and plumbs meaning, all at the same time. I couldn't put it down.

I enjoyed this book from beginning to end and found each character to take on his or her own personality. I got so caught up in the story, that I could imagine being in the story myself, not just a reader, reading a book. I also liked the mention of places in Pittsburgh, since I live there. It is an easy read and very hard to put down. I am very much looking forward to your next book!
