Product Description
4-jaw independent chucks allow work to be held either perfectly on center or purposely off-center by adjusting each of the four jaws independently. Using a dial indicator and by careful adjustment of the jaws, a part can be adjusted until it is perfectly on center. This is known as having "zero runout." Though somewhat more time consuming to adjust than a self-centering chuck, it does allow for a much higher degree of accuracy. Typically, self-centering chucks, though quicker and eaiser to use than independent jaw chucks, offer a guaranty of runout to "less than .003 inches." If total accuracy is your goal, an independent chuck is what you need. For use with Sherline machine tools.
