Excellent Quality!, October 25, 2007
These films are of excellent quality-- they are crispy clear and do not have the grainy appearance of previous releases. This particular set is PAL, though, and you must have a region-free dvd player to play this (or a PAL player!). In the U.S., the set is called The Complete Sherlock Holmes Collection and is available for one hundred and nineteen! So, obviously, this is a better deal at almost half the price of the U.S. version if you have the correct player to play the dvds.
However, if you go to Amazon.UK, this set is only £27 with £3 postage. That works out to about sixty dollars total. And, they ship right away-- you will receive it within a week. Some of the sellers on here are selling the set for almost seventy dollars USED! The best thing to do is to purchase it new through Amazon UK. Also, when I purchased it, it was selling for only £23, plus £3 shipping. That made my total only about fifty dollars-- so watch out for a couple of days to see if there is a price decrease.

Brilliant, September 16, 2007
This is a marvellous set of all 14 films that Rathbone and Bruce made together.
The remastering is excellent and the difference is quite dramtic compared with some other versions of the same films that I have. Recently I made a direct comparison between the two versions of "Terror By Night" and the improvement is dramatic.
As previous reviewers have said Rathbone and Bruce work very well together and Dr Watson has some wonderfully funny lines, which if not Conan Doyles original lines, still work very well nevertheless. Some of the acting is occasionally a bit wooden, and sometimes the plots are a bit contrived (again I don't think this is Conan Doyles fault) but even so these are classic films regardless.
This set makes all previous boxed sets of Rathbone and Bruce (of which I own one) completely redundant. Buy this one!!
