Great Fun,
By blibberinghumdinger (Los Angeles, CA United States) - See all my reviews Unlike a lot of mystery games like Nancy Drew, its not bogged down with characters and too many talking scenes. Its just you as Sherlock Holmes poking around in rooms full of Egyptian artifacts. It's mostly finding clues and keys to keep progressing, with some larger puzzles. It is like Riddles of the Sphinx, but not as hard and with more varied places to explore, amd more clues along the way. Highly recommended!

Fun but very hard,
A Kid's Review
The Mystery of the Mummy was lots of fun but incredibly hard. Lots of the puzzles were so difficult we had to look online for a walkthrough to get us past them. One of the puzzles was a Chinese tile puzzle, also known as gridders and a bunch of other stuff. We were timed on this puzzle, but there was no way you could do it in that amount of time, unless you were a wiz at it. We had to copy the game down on a peice of paper and do it by hand to even think about doing it. But besides that the game was very enjoyable, and it was fun to see Sherlock Holmes confront the criminal in the end. Even though the clip was a little long , it helped you understand the way the case ended. We rate it four stars instead of five because it was difficult to understand at many times what you were supposed to be doing. If you found this game to hard to do, try the Nancy Drew games. The are also mysteries, but a lot more things are explained and you also kind of know what you are doing. I am 12, and my sister is 2 years younger then me, and working together we figured it out. It was lots of fun, and I definatly reccomend it.

Very poor gameplay outweighs good graphics,
By Morningside Slim "Puzzle Gamer" (San Francisco, CA USA) - See all my reviews The packaging boasts "exceptional puzzles." They were exceptional -- exeptionally bad. And the puzzles were sparsely distributed among a game mainly consisting of painstakingly scanning the floors, walls, and ceilings of countless rooms in search of sometimes pixel-sized inventory items which you rarely even know you need. For example, there is one case where, I kid you not, you must find a hairpin on the stairs (because of course that's where you'd look for a hairpin) right after (and I couldn't make this up) an explosion has caused debris to fall everywhere on the floor. Where should the hairpin be used? To pick a lock? To poke a hole in something? Something else that follows the rules of logic? Of course not! You have to use it on a mirror to (in a manner never quite explained) extract a letter that was somehow behind the mirror. At best, it's an inventory game, rather than a puzzle or adventure game, and the inventory use is arbitrary and frustrating, rather than logical and rewarding. If you want puzzles, get 11th Hour; if you want inventory get Monkey Island. This game's only redeeming quality was the good graphics and a catchy Victorian/Egyptian soundtrack. The premise of Sherlock Holmes poking around Ancient Egyptian artifacts in a mansion sounds so promising. Unfortunately, Holmes' comments and the boring and convoluted plot miss that potential as well. I sympathize with the animators and recording artists who had to work on this terribly designed game.
