One of the nicest things about Patrick Gowers' superb soudtracks for Granada's SHERLOCK HOLMES television series is its subtle sense of humor. There are any number of musical jokes scattered throughout this recording,clever commentary on the action taking place on screen. My favorite is the echo of "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" in the soundtrack of THE SECOND STAIN, though you will hear echoes of Elgar in the ILLUSTRIOUS LORD BELLINGER, and a trace of Gustav Mahler in the famous opening theme. This record contains some of the best soundtracks ever recorded for a television show or motion picture. The DEATH OF SHERLOCK HOLMES track is a brilliant and moving piece of music that works just as well when divorced from the visuals. I am delighted to see that this hard-to-find record is back in print and can recommend it to all who love Sherlock Holmes or good film music.

This CD is excellent. I recommend it to all Holmes fans, Jeremy Brett fans, or people who just like good music. Personally, my favorite tracks are "Neville St. Clair's Nostalgia" and "North by Ten and by Ten". All the songs are great, though, and whoever owns this CD owns an unforgettable piece of TV and music history.

Patrick Gowers' soundtrack to the excellent Granada series (starring Jeremy Brett) of Sherlock Holmes tales is well worth the investment. The compositions are atmospheric, and the performances are first-rate. Sound quality is also the best. A must-have for all devotees of the Granada series!

This CD is the essential companion piece to the Granada television Sherlock Holmes series starring Jeremy Brett. Patrick Gowers perfectly captures the suspense of the stories, but more importantly he captures the essense of Holmes in his music -- the great detective's genius and the fire and melacholy of his personality. This disc contains music from "The Sign of Four" as well as various cues from episodes within "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes" and "The Return of Sherlock Holmes." Buy this CD, curl up with a cup of tea and a copy of Conan Doyle's masterpiece, and witness Holmes come to life.

These are the original musical themes from the Grenada series of Sherlock Holmes stories [Jeremy Brett as Holmes] Libera Me from "The Priory School" is my favourite track, but I'm certain you will find your favourite theme music on this CD as well. A must for the Sherlock Holmes collector.

This soundtrack captures much of the atmosphere of the Conan Doyle stories, and the Jeremy Brett/Edward Hardwicke TV series.

The arrangements and performance are first class.

The CD is worth obtaining for anyone with an interest in Sherlock Holmes.

Brett's contribution as Sherlock Holmes is in a class of its own. Like this CD, it has no real competition - it is valuable and unique.

If you are a Jeremy Brett fan, then this cd will transport you back to many
episodes of thrill, drama, and pure mental satisfaction of a mystery well solved at the violin theme of Sherlock Holmes.

Patrick Gowers more than meets ones expectation of what is to follow, creating an exalted atmosphere of Victorian London, coal burning fireplaces, chamber maids, and
handsom cabs. You can hear the clip-clop of horses hooves on cobblestone pavement,
feel the chill in the air as you pass by Big Ben, Kensington, and of course, 221B Baker street.

This cd almost makes one want to take up "peep" smoking.......well, perhaps later...

This cd is a "must have" for anyone spending a cold afternoon by the fire,
"sight seeing" all the imagry only available to one that is a true fan of literary history,civility, and charm. Bring out your comfortable house slippers, smoking jacket, and hot chocolate. It's about that time..............

Sir Arthur Conan-Doyle would have given his walking cane, and all the chair & table socks in his house for a copy of this!

I recently purchased the Sherlock Holmes TV Soundtrack, as I am a huge fan of the series that starred Jeremy Brett. This CD is simply a work of art. Patrick Gowers' talent as a composer far surpasses that of John Barry, whom I used to think was The Master of film scoring.
This CD is filled with heart-wrenching/brooding/action-packed compositions. Worth every penny! Just like the show, you will find different nuances hidden in it every time you listen. Simply beautifully delightful- and especially great on cold, dreary, rainy nights, with a cognac in hand!

I cannot explain precisely why I am such a huge fan of the Granada series starring Jeremy Brett. But I have also very much enjoyed the background score in the various episodes that came out over the years.

When I discovered a soundtrack of sorts was available I immediately ordered it and it does not disappoint.

I can't imagine anyone purchasing this if they do not enjoy the television series, but if you appreciate the series then you should enjoy this CD.

I don't know if I've reviewed this product before, but it's worth coming back and praising it repeatedly. Patrick Gowers hit repeated home runs with this glorious theme and the way he ingeniously works it into so many different plots. It's the very finest example of television music composition. Get it and keep it. My thanks to Jeremy Brett for being such a top-notch actor as to keep me rivited to this series time after time, so that I could learn more about the music.
