Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

YA. It was a dark and stormy night in 1912 when Dr. John Watson was called out of retirement to join his friend Sherlock Holmes on board the Titanic. They were to travel to America to carry out a top-secret government mission. While on board, Holmes, disguised as a Naval Commodore, is to look after a young secret agent who is transporting important submarine plans to the U.S. Navy. The plans are stolen, corpses appear, the investigation proceeds, and all the while the ship moves across the Atlantic toward what the passengers think is a New York City dock?but readers know differently. Long-time fans will welcome another adventure with Holmes and Watson and, given the current level of interest in the Titanic disaster, even teens who haven't read Conan Doyle's works will enjoy this story.?Patricia Noonan, Prince William Public Library,

Review

Sir Conan Doyle's Holmes protagonist comes alive in a new plot which uses the Titanic's sinking as a backdrop for mystery. Here Holmes and sidekick are called out of retirement to travel to America on board the Titanic on a secret assignment for the British government. International intrigue involves the two as the ship plunges toward a watery destiny. -- Midwest Book Review

This review is from: Sherlock Holmes and the Titanic Tragedy: A Case to Remember (Adventures of Sherlock Holmes) (Paperback)
I found this book to be very readable. It has Holmes (coming out of retirement) and Watson boarding the Titanic on a mission to help out Irene (Adler) Nortn's daughter on a mission to the United States. There are several interesting sub-plots along the way

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, September 24, 1999

I think that if I were to give this book a subtitle, it would be: Sherlock Holmes Meets Murphy's law. It seemed like from the beginning, everything that could go wrong in this case did go wrong. Of the non-Doyle written Holmes books, this is one of my favorites. I would recommend it to any Holmes enthusiast.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Pastiche, April 24, 2002

This review is from: Sherlock Holmes and the Titanic Tragedy: A Case to Remember (Adventures of Sherlock Holmes) (Paperback)
I love Holmes and Watson, so I have read many of the pastiche. I believe this was the best of all. Contrary to a few of the other reviews, I thought this Holmes was very true to form, and that the author absolutely nailed Watson. I also thought he did a good job capturing the Titanic scene. I recommend this highly to anyone who likes Holmes or the lore of the Titanic.
