Book Description

"This is certainly one of the most delightful books I've read in 2011. No dodging into phone booths for this supershero, who makes Spiderman and Superman look downright dowdy. Shero is always well-dressed and prepared for any crisis. This girl knows who she is and is prepared to kick ass to prove it. Only the most mean-spirited (and Shero knows who they are) could fail to fall in love with this feisty character with killer nail polish. Long may she strut her stuff." -- CM Barret

"Wallen has done an admirable job of creating a colorful, over-the-top comedic take on the superhero genre and seasoned it with the tropes one would find in more traditional adventures. Shero is not your ordinary crime fighter; she is a transgendered superhero top to bottom and embraces herself totally and is also accepted by society. From her custom made, Kevlar coated black dresses to her poisonous fingernail polish, there is no shame in her game! And her compatriots are just as colorful, with their code names and awesome super powers. There are leagues for both the heroes and villains in this story, double crosses and secret histories. Clearly,Wallen has read more than a few comics in his day, and has turned out a new adventure here with a very clever twist." -- Benito

Shero is not your ordinary superhero … unless you consider a cross-dressing superhero normal. Besides having to deal with the every day challenges of evil villain-dom, Shero must combat broken heels, runs in his stockings, chipped nails, and the prejudice of public opinion.

In this first installment Shero finds the perfect black dress, a possible lover, a deadly shade of fingernail polish, some nasty, nasty foes, an internal superhero political war, and a narrator full of attitude.

Caution: You may find yourself yelling "You go girl!" which could certainly lead to public humiliation. You've been warned.

This is a novella-length book that will make you feel sexy as hell upon completing.

About the Author

Jack Wallen has a goal -- to become the Zombie King. He won't do that by dining on the brains of helpless victims. Instead he will write and write until his fingers and mind are nothing but meat for the beasts. During that time Jack will produce works of zombie fiction that are both enjoyable and cringe-worthy. Of course, being of the insane writer clan, Jack isn't just happy with the penning of zombie fiction. Oh no, the nightmare does not end there. Like the late, great Freddy Mercury, Jack wants it all -- so, he will continue writing his Fringe Killer series as well as his joyous celebration of all things diverse -- Shero. For his inspiration to begin reading and writing, Jack thanks the ever-incredible Clive Barker for penning in a genre with words of grace and horror.

5.0 out of 5 stars Shero, you are my HERO! September 1, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I LOVE the humor in this colorful story, and I especially love Shero. Why? Not just because of his awesometastic ninja skills (all in heels and a dress) or his freakin' cool fingernails of death. I LOVE Shero because he's true to himself, despite the scorn of narrow-minded, hateful folk who'd rather judge his clothes than his deeds. And, yet, Shero stands by his convictions and is constantly risking his life to do what's right, all in three inch heels. You go girl!

1.0 out of 5 stars Shero took on a whole new meaning March 29, 2013

I thought it to be a kick butt, in-your-face, woman hero story but was fairly disappointed by what shero had implied and was insulted by the term used for the male prospective. I read a few chapters and returned it. After reading a few books by this author, I thought I would get to enjoy a few more reads by him so I did not take the time to read reviews or really take a good look at the cover (which was a mistake on my part) to stop me from purchasing. Judging a book by its cover took on a whole new meaning....sorry, but this was not the book for me.

4.0 out of 5 stars SHERO! October 3, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
SHERO by Jack Wallen is a fun, breezy yet still superheroic adventure with a very different kind of hero.

Shero, the hero(ine) of Wallen's story, is an intrepid crime fighter and member of the Society of Superheroes, doing it all and then some in fabulous couture and three inch heels. Shero is dedicated to protecting the innocent and being an exemplary leader in the SSH...until it's all turned upside down and she doesn't know who she can trust or where to turn to. Now instead of fighting crime and keeping the citizenry safe from VILE, the group of supervillains at odds with the SSH, Shero must clear her name and figure out who in the Society has it in for her and why.

Wallen has done an admirable job of creating a colorful, over-the-top comedic take on the superhero genre and seasoned it with the tropes one would find in more traditional adventures. Clearly,Wallen has read more than a few comics in his day, and has turned out a new adventure here with a very clever twist.

I really appreciated that Wallen was able to try his hand at telling a superhero story, especially with a protagonist such as Shero, and keep it fun and light. Just because there are gay characters in a story, too often it seems that the story will wind up in the gutter, with said characters winding up in the sheets.

5.0 out of 5 stars Shero is awesome August 1, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I was asked a while back to give my thoughts on Shero, a superhero-themed story with a twist by Jack Wallen. I found it to be a great example of envelope pushing fiction, and I think the world needs way more Shero.

Now, I have to prove that statement.

Shero is a transgendered superhero. He rocks fighting crime and the forces of V.I.L.E. in heels and a dress, with his katana and fingernail shooting superpower. He's open about who he is, even if the public doesn't understand, they love him anyways. Shero is a multifaceted character, and he has a log of inner doubts, questions and frustrations. He doesn't lead the perfect, idealized superhero life, which makes him a very sympathetic character. You want to cheer for him. He's lovable, entertaining and misunderstood.

But, just like how gender is actually a shade of grey rather than an oppressive black and white, so are good and evil. Jack Wallen takes the concepts of hero and villain and mixes them around, until you're not sure who is good, and who is evil. The plot is a war between perceptions of stark-contrast good and evil, and reality. It's a refreshing take on the subject, because most bad guys are defined as "bad" just because, and good is good because it isn't bad.

The suspense and action kept me on the edge of my seat. Shero kicks ass, takes names and does all the things a superhero does, all while looking better in a fancy dress than I do. Various superpowers were unique, different and felt super while still giving action scenes that weren't horribly overpowered.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kickin' Butt in Heels! October 22, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
"Shero" by Jack Wallen is a fun romp in Size 14 patent-leather Mary Janes! It is full of sass and attitude, with a narrator who feels like a girlfriend gossiping over coffee and sweet stuff. The ultimate theme of this novel is one that everyone should learn -- it's a story about one man's (girl's!) struggle to remain true to himself in the face of a world that won't let him do so easily. I recommend this book for a read that is funny, full of life, and for a date with a character you'll want to hear more from after the book ends!

More About the Author

Jack Wallen is the new name in horror. His works span genres and weave evil, conspiracy, and fear into nightmarish worlds.

Jack has been given the title "Zombie King" by his readers and fans. He didn't garner that title by dining on the brains of helpless victims. It was only after writing until his fingers and mind were nothing but meat for the beasts that he became a master of the zombie genre. During that haunted hay ride Jack produced works of fiction enjoyable by not just zombie fans, but anyone daring to take a peek into what might possibly become of humanity.

Of course, being of the insane writer clan, Jack isn't just happy with the penning of zombie fiction. Oh no, the nightmare does not end there. Like the late, great Freddy Mercury, Jack wants it all -- so, he will continue twisting the horror genre to meet his disturbed mind as well as write his Fringe Killer and Screampark series, and his joyous celebration of all things diverse -- Shero.

For his inspiration to begin reading and writing, Jack thanks the ever-incredible Clive Barker for penning in a genre with words of grace and horror.
