4.0 out of 5 stars Bag too small
I purchased this bag to transport a puppy I was adopting from a shelter and needed to fly home. The airline's policy is that the dog needs to be able to stand up and turn around. Unfortunately, the bag was too small for the puppy to do that (and the pup was only 9 lbs). I was advised that I would be turned away at the airport so I had to return the bag and go with a...

1.0 out of 5 stars Bad Bags
I purchased two of the Sherpa-American Airlines Duffle Pet Travel Carriers. If I could have given this product 0 stars I would have. Both cats were able to chew their way thru the mesh. Fortunately this was a car trip and not on a plane. This bag might work for a very weak kitten.

Unfortunately, the bag was too small for the puppy to do that (and the pup was only 9 lbs). I was advised that I would be turned away at the airport so I had to return the bag and go with a cargo carrier. Unless your dog is very small, this is a waste. The bag is very sturdy, though, but not worth it if the dog cannot travel in it.

5.0 out of 5 stars American Airlines Pet Transport Bag, September 7, 2010

I had no problems getting my new puppy on American Airlines with this bag. If you are going to fly AA with a puppy please get your Vet Check from the Vet and then when you leave you and the puppy needs to go to the Ticket Agent and she will check in your puppy for carrie on. Have in hand your Vet Check. You will have to by the puppy a ticket at that time. Make sure you bring you puppy some food with you. You should be able to get sample food from a pet store. It was much easer to get past security when it was pre-packed samples. Also you will need to get a small food and water bowl. I bought the pop up bowls and you have to buy the lids separate. Also when the your in the air get ice for your puppy less messie. Water has a tend to spill. But other wise I still use this bag to take the puppy to the vet. Sturdy and very well made.

I bought this to help ensure I would have the minimum hassle getting onto an AA flight with my cat. I ad no prolem at all. This carrier is sturdy, comfortable for the pet and has 2 possible openings: top and front. The only thing that would make it better is if it had wheels, but I used a collapsable luggage cart (wheelie) with it and it worked fine

4.0 out of 5 stars A tight fit but acceptable; well constructed, September 29, 2011
This review is from: Sherpa-American Airlines Navy Blue Duffle Pet Travel Carrier Tote Bag. Medium 17"L x 10.5"W x 11"H (Misc.)
Technically, my dog should have the large sherpa but all of the airlines have required dimensions that would not allow the large size carrier. I purchased the medium sherpa and (see photo) had to squash it down a bit on one end to make it fit under an AirTran seat. This involved bending the metal frame a bit. The dog could turn around but not stand up completely. I was fortunate that neither the AirTran ticket counter crew nor the flight crew required my dog to stand up and turn around in order to be boarded in-cabin. She curled up and took a nap during our 2 hour flight up and again on the flight back. I bought a wheeled sherpa but the frame on it was even more rigid than on the hand-carried sherpa and it was a bit larger so I did not use it for the flight. Every time I fly, I am concerned that some well-meaning airline personnel will forbid my dog to board and I will miss dog shows for which I have already paid entry fees and made hotel/rental car reservations.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great, November 11, 2011

This was our first time traveling with pets. Going through the security gates was interesting but everything was fine. The bags were quick and easy to access, which was a big bonus when you have scared cats with their claws dug into your shoulder hanging on for dear life. We had small hand towels to cover the bags as well, which helped to give the cats a bit more privacy and calm them down a bit. With the towels on, only a handful of staff members, passengers and inquisitive children actually noticed the cats in the bags. We bought the larger size the 11"H and they fit just right under the seats. You may need to squeeze them in a bit to get them under the seats but once they're in, they should pop back to shape and not squash the animals inside. At home they can also be stacked on top of each other to make bunk beds if you're tight on space.

Fit the size cat that was promised by Sherpa and Amazon websites. Good quality product and would definitely recommend. Make sure you call your airline before and after booking your flight to ensure you have a reservation for the animal.
