I bought this item because I wanted a CD player that would play WMA CDs. Well, it does that, but very little else. The weirdness starts when you press the power button and the unit does not turn on. You have to press the On/Standby button to turn it on. Want to play a CD? Not so fast. Press the CD/USB button and make sure the "CD" shows on the display. When you load a CD, the machine makes an annoying "whirring" sound while it reads it, sometime taking as long as two minutes to do this. When you press play, it may takes an additional moment before you hear anything. (I had a hard time getting the disc out when it finished; you have to press the "Disc Skip" button, which they don't tell you in the book.) The player would not play the CD-Rs I made from my LP collection, and wouldn't even play one of the CDs I bought! It just "whirs" for two or three minutes and then comes up with the message, "No Disc." On one of the CDs it did play, something was wrong with the sound reproduction. Some of the musicians sounded as though they were in another room (or perhaps, another city?). Overall, my experience with this player was a total disaster, and I would not recommend it to anybody.

For the price, is just what I expected. Sounds good with my BOSE speakers. It's simple to use and with 5 cds you just have music for a long period.

Yah, I did try a lens cleaner. And yep, it was unussually warm within an 80 degree room-> after I removed it and put my 4 year old, glitchy but functional, Denon cd changer back. And I don't even know if it's worth it to get warranty service? It stopped reading all clean new disks in tray, except for one. The one that it did read sounded like a windshield wiper. I see no reason to investigate any further, it's obviously broke.
Ignoring the fact that the Denon DCM-290 is $60 more than this unit, presently. Here's the run down, Got Disk Changer, try to compete there; Sony, Pioneer, Samsung; in fact I just wish you would. In this day and age, they are tough to find in even DVD.
For what I paid, in comparison I am not displeased. So I now own the Sherwood, and will Compare it to the overpriced, possibly, Denon<-what I just replaced
Okay, harmonic distortion is 3X that of the Denon, when pumped through Coax. It sounds slightly rawer on my martin logan montages, don't mind it so much, the mild difference . I'm not saying it sounds great on Analog, who cares? Fact being, that if you have High End Surround Speakers, then you also have Digital Input to your Receiver. No brainer there. It amazingly, seems even more primitive than Denon in it`s features. Specs for Denon Optical out -15 ~ -21 dBm and 660 nm. For Sherwood -20 ~ -15 dBm at 660 nm. Digital's always the same right?
Then there's the exception to all these lowered expectations. With it's seemingly inferior multibit, 8x oversampling sigma-delta Digital to Analog conversion, it has very stable playback of nicked or scratched CDs. So unless you are capable of keeping your huge CD collection perfectly pristine, who can?, that is an advantage.
