I purchase this receiver a few months ago and love it. I used speakers and a subwoofer from an existing all-in-one dvd/surround sound system I've had for about 8 years. This receiver is actually a little too powerful for those speakers, but they'll do until I can upgrade them someday. That said, the sound is incredible and better than I imagined. Primary uses are: playback of CDs, surround sound for TV/Cable/Blu Ray and regular radio. It takes some time to tweak everything, but the system has some memories you can use to keep the levels where you want them. Works great with inputs from: HDMI (Blu Ray), Optical (LG Television), Component/RCA (cable box). The only thing that I haven't been able to tweak well yet is the output from my laptop or my iPod, using the standard 'line out' type cable from the headphone jacks (I'm sure there's a better sounding way to do this, but I've yet to explore it). The receiver also has BlueTooth capabilities, but requires a separate dongle to plug in (which appears to be about $60 - $70 right now). Would love to get this and see how it sounds to send BlueTooth from iPhone or laptop, but alas, that will wait...price is too high for the dongle right now.

Anyway, this system beat my expectations (which I could only base on my previous all-in-one system) and for the price, I find it to be just about perfect.

this baby has all the hookups you need. 2 hdmi inputs and one out for simple control of your game system and tv box straight (passthrough) to your hdmi tv !!
it also has more optical connections, an mp3 player front input, and even analog connections for older devices + a sub-woof output. if you hook up surround speakers let me tell ya there's plenty of surround audio options for anyones flavour. for a lower end tuner this system walks and talks more like a mid-range receiver, at a fraction of the cost !
do yourself a favour and buy this bad boy @ over 500 watts output !!

This Reciever is amazing. You can take a pair of old speakers and make them sound like a new setup. I have paired this with a Klipsch 300 HD 5.1 theater system. WOW! I have compared this to my friends $800 Denon and this sounds just as good if not better! BUY THIS RECEIVER. Also this does take the sound out of HDMI. This is one of the best receivers i have ever heard. IT TOOK 1 DAY TO GET IT WITH STANDARD SHIPPING FROM BEACH AUDIO. All this for $150 with shipping
