4.0 out of 5 stars Good Buy, Good Sound.
I very much enjoyed this DVD. I was apprehensive after reading some of the other reviews. I listened to both the DD 5.1 and the DTS audio (both of which are included on this disk) and I will admit the DD 5.1 sounded a little thin compared to the DTS. The DTS sounded excellent, however. Other reviews try and compare this to the Eagles Hell Freezes Over DVD, I don't...

3.0 out of 5 stars Low Frills
While I am a big Sheryl Crow fan, I was disappointed in the absence of extras that make DVD so enjoyable. Though I am not as much of a fan of Sarah McClachlan, the producers of "Rockin' the Globe" could take a lesson from the "Mirrorball" folks, who absolutely packed that DVD to the gills. If you're simply a fan of Crow's music, this will certainly...

Other reviews try and compare this to the Eagles Hell Freezes Over DVD, I don't think that is a reasonable comparison. The Eagles uses a much more aggressive 5.1 mix while this show uses a more conservative mix. The DTS sound on this disk is deep and rich and uses the front 3 channels quite well; the rear channels are used primarily for reverb effect. The DD 5.1 did sound a little thin and lacked the bass response of the DTS.

Overall, if you like Sheryl Crow you should get this disk. If you are looking for a special effects laden aggressive mix that has the guitar coming out of the rear left channel and the backing singers out of the rear right channel while the vocals whip across the front three channels this is not for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Concert DVD, But DTS Lacking, January 5, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Sheryl Crow - Rockin' the Globe Live - DTS (DVD)
As a huge Sheryl Crow fan, I bought this DVD on release day. I really enjoyed the disc - the concert was excellent. Sheryl rocked (as always), and the video shots and camera angles were very well done (there are some nice shots of people in the crowd up front singing along with Sheryl). My only disappointment was with the DTS audio track. While it sounded good, it just didn't seem to take full advantage of DTS. I may be spoiled by other DTS DVD concert titles I have (most notably, Hell Freezes Over by the Eagles - an incredible example of DTS surround sound), but the sound stage on this DTS DVD seemed a bit flat to me. That was the only reason I gave this DVD 4 stars instead of five. Still, all in all, an excellent DVD that I am very glad I purchased.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worthy of repeated watching, February 24, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Sheryl Crow - Rockin' the Globe Live - DTS (DVD)
Sheryl Crow and her band are presented in fine form on this DVD. The band is not just backing her up, they are solidly playing WITH her. They are obviously very well rehearsed with tight playing all around. Sheryl's voice is top notch, and the drummer's subtle background vocals are right on. The video is presented without the all-too-often "special effects" some live concert films just can't stay away from. The camera work is very good, the picture is clear and sharp, and it appears (to me) that there are no over-dubs or voice-overs. The audio track (DTS) is accurate, and you sound like you're there, especially when played very loud. The only minor bummer is the occasional audience shot. They're all suffering from jet-lag or something. Perhaps they weren't selling alcohol at the show. I find myself playing this disc over and over, and this is a great disc to show off your system. Even if your just a marginal fan of Sheryl Crow, this show will win you over.

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible 5.1 Mix, January 7, 2000

If your goal is DTS Music on a medium to high end system, you'll be disappointed with this recording. To me, a decent 5.1 mix is a deep full sound with a sound stage that puts you on site. This DTS recording is tinny and flat. I really like Sheryl Crow, but this recording mix is best left for low end stereo. After listening to two tracks, I turned it off and moved on to something more exciting. 5.1 recordings are just starting to take off, this isn't the model to follow.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful performer, March 4, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Sheryl Crow - Rockin' the Globe Live - DTS (DVD)
If anyone has seen THE GLOBE SESSIONS tour, this is a carbon copy of it. The song sellections are the same as the concerts I saw in Chicago and it is GREAT to have this available on DVD.

This is a concert from Detroit and Sheryl just simply knows how to give a great performance. Video image is top notch along with the audio quality. The version of AM I GETTING THROUGH is simply ELECTRIFYING ! A MUST have for dedicated fans of Ms Crow.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great energy, January 5, 2000

The song content of this dvd is awesome. Every track is a good one. Sheryl Crow has to be one of the best female song writers and performers ever. A multi-talented musician also. In this concert she goes from playing acoustic guitar to bass guitar to harmonica to electric guitar and finally to piano. Amazing! The only complaint I have is about the recording itself. I had to adjust the volume on my reciever every other song. Sometimes the bass was so loud you could barely hear the other instraments, other times you could barely understand the vocals. I expected more from a DTS recording(ex. Eagles: hell freezes over) but overall a must have!

I am as much a fan of DTS as I am of Sheryl Crow so I expected awesome sound and performance. I got the performance; as for the sound this disk did NOT deliver. The sound stage was flat as a board and not very well defined. I guess the excellent Eagle's Hell Freezes Over DVD has set the bar!

I cannot stop rewatching this dvd. Whether plugged into my reciever or even straight off my laptop I cannot get enough of Sheryl. The songs on here are wonderful and the editing is so nice that you get drawn into the show that the next thing you know it's over. I watch it over and you wish there were more dvds to buy.
