I've been a fan of Christine Warren's books since I read her Fixed series at Ellora's Cave a few years back and I was so pleased when I heard she'd sold to NY. I was also happy to see some characters from her Fixed series featured. HOWEVER, even if I hadn't read the prior books, it wouldn't have mattered, she gave enough backstory and didn't feature them in a way that would have confused you if you haven't read her Fixed books (although you should really read Fur Fixed with Graham and Missy - my favorite of the series at EC)

Fiona is a total pain in the booty but she's likeable too. I enjoyed reading about her character and I really loved the scenes with her pixie and imp.

And Tobias - well, one of the reasons I love to read about werewolves (done right) is how very alpha and protective they can be. I thought Warren hit the right balance here. He's sexy and strong and smart and you know he's going to fall for Fiona in a big way but I thought the way they came together was believable (it *is* paranormal romance).

I liked the magic and the world she's built and the chemistry was HOT! I wish there were more books about the Fae out there but in the mean time, check this one out because it's very satisfying.

4.0 out of 5 stars Light, Fun, and Very Entertaining!, February 17, 2007

This review is from: She's No Faerie Princess (The Others, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
An interesting premise...Fiona, daughter of Queen Mab (Seelie Court) and King Dionnu (Useelie court) decides she's had enough court intrigue and politics and heads off to New York for a bit of a vacation...despite the fact that travel to human land are banned by her aunt, The Queen. She successfully slips out of her world and into the human realm and is almost immediately attacked by a demon and then saved by Tobias, a werewolf. This story is an interesting mix of the everyday "real" world, a separate magical world...and those places where the two mix. The basic gist of the story is that Fiona comes for a vacation...a little dancing, some good food, a little hankie panky and winds up stuck here, hunted by demons at what could be described as the worst time for this to happen...at a time when humans and otherkin of all kinds are negotiating otherkin rights. At a time when these negotiations are at a delicate place and where Tobias and his pack are working around the clock to ensure there are no "incidents" to ruin the negotiations.

What you get in She's No Faerie Princess is just romping good fun with a minor mystery thrown in. Probably the best part of the book is the chemistry between Tobias and Fiona. They have a very Han Solo/Princess Lea kind of sexual tension/animosity between them (sorry, but that's what came to mind as I was reading through the book) that manages to be both humorous and annoying. I guess that's what happens when you throw a sexually liberated and extremely stubborn Faerie into a romantic paring with an [..] retentive, driven to protect werewolf. That's not all it's got...in this story you get Demons, Fiends, Witches, Werewolves (and a Werejaguar), heck you even get Demon Police...the number of twists in this novel, while somewhat predictable, are totally fun and She's no Faerie Princess has sex that actually manages to be "hot" and well placed...instead of the plot being used to bridge sex scenes, we got more plot with sex as a key component to making it all work out right.

Overall, I give it four stars. She's No Faerie Princess is a light, easy read that is very entertaining. The female lead is feisty and while she must be rescued more than once...she's not a helpless damsel waiting helplessly to be rescued by the big, strong werewolf...I like that she was independent, strong-willed (read stubborn), and really just looking to have a good time. The only drawback I found was that at times, the overbearing "mine" mentality the author gave Tobias got a bit tired...we get it already; you don't have to beat us over the head with it. Other than that, a really entertaining, light read for those times when you just need a bit of fluff to entertain you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun story!, November 3, 2006

This review is from: She's No Faerie Princess (The Others, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
I've been following Christine Warren since before her Other stories went mainstream. I'm happy to say that this story has plenty of action and great chemistry between the hero and heroine. Plus, there are return visits from some of her other great characters.

Fiona, a Fae princess, pops into New York for a vacation. Unfortunately, she runs into demon trouble and joins forces with Tobias Walker, a werewolf who tries to protect her while they try solve the demon mystery.

I loved the tension between the main characters, and who can resist an alpha male?

The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I think I still miss the really steamy love scenes that characterized her early work with the Others, although this book has plenty of heat.

This review is from: She's No Faerie Princess (The Others, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
Fiona, faerie princess in line to potentially inherit both of the thrones of Faerie, has decided to get away from the political intrigues of the court and steal off to modern day New York City. One little problem, a demon who wants to eat her heart is there to greet her at the dimensional doorway.

For Tobias Walker, nearly alpha werewolf, Fiona's appearance couldn't have come at a worse time. The Others, the supernatural community, are secretly working with human politicians from all over the globe to field a bill of rights before they have one heck of a coming out. This means Tobias has been assigned the job of keeping all the Others in the city out of trouble- the last thing he wants is A. a bunch of hungry demons running amuck eating the populice and B. a royal faerie trapped in his town against the fae queens wishes who happens to be the queens neice and a tasty demon treat.

But neither of them gets any say in the matter when Fions's gate home closes and their forced to work together to save the populace from the demons. It's a great story with lots of fire between the possesive wolf and the princess. I couldn't give it a 5 though because some things you could just see way in advance, like the bad guy. There was really only one option for who it could be. But it's definitely a story worth picking up and it was better than Wolf at the Door it's predacessor in this series.

4.0 out of 5 stars 3.5 stars Engrossing paranormal romance with Fae, shapeshifters and more, January 2, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: She's No Faerie Princess (The Others, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
Fiona, niece of the Queen of the Fae, is bored with her life at court. She decides to take a vacation to NYC, even though it's forbidden by Fae rules to cross the veil. Just when she crosses over, she's attacked by a demon. She is rescued by Tobias, a werewolf active in the politics of the Others (ie, werewolves, vampires, etc.) He and his associates have been involved negotiations between the Others and humankind about Others going public. The story is focused on Fiona and Toby coming together, figuring out who is behind a series of attacks in the area, who has closed off the portal and ultimately who is threatening the peace talks with the humans.

This was a fun, quick read -- fast paced, hard to put down, lots of intrigue and politics, good romance and humor. I enjoyed the main characters as well as the supporting cast. The author does a good job building the world and describing the politics and organization of the Others races. I also liked the focus on the Fae and shapeshifters; so many books I've read lately have focused on vampires its a nice change of pace. If you are a paranormal romance fan, this is a good book for you to read. It's not as strong as the leaders in the genre like Cole, Ward, and Frost, but still enjoyable.

Reading order:
Wolf at the Door
She's No Faerie Princess
Demon You Know
Walk on the Wild Side
One Bite with a Stranger
You're So Vein
Big Bad Wolf

5.0 out of 5 stars delightful charming romantic fantasy, November 17, 2006
This review is from: She's No Faerie Princess (The Others, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
Queen Mab of the Seelie has banned all travel to the human realm; however that does not prevent her most rebellious relative, her niece Princess Fiona from going on vacation in New York to party at punk clubs of the Village. However, upon arriving in Central park, Fiona is attacked by a demon, who should not be there. Patrolling the streets to avert any incidents between the Others (vampires and werewolves who have come out of the closet and in to the night) and humans while rights negotiations are going on, Tobias Walker, beta werewolf of the Silverback clan saves Fiona's life.

For some unknown magical reason, Fiona cannot return home through the portal she came from. Tobias keeps her safe while further assaults on her from demons occur. As the werewolf and the Seelie realize they are soul mates, they also think a malevolent Armageddon type devastation is coming amidst all the realms with no hope to thwart the evil except perhaps the most powerful magic of them all, love.

SHE'S NO FAERIE PRINCESS is a delightful charming romantic fantasy with a touch of chick lit that will make believers out of skeptics that there are more sentient species in this universe than humans. Fiona is a fabulous rebel without a cause who suddenly has several causes. Tobias is bone weary tired but now has a new complication especially if her Aunt Mab learns that her niece is in Manhattan fighting demons and sleeping in a werewolf's home; that is before he realizes he and his beloved must save the multiverse. This is a spellbinding paranormal romance.

3.0 out of 5 stars Review from the book review blog, Book Faery, March 10, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Story:
Enter Fiona, Fae royalty who's pretty much just sick and tired of politics. So, breaking all the rules instated by her aunt, the violet-eyed princess sneaks off to the mortal world to have a good time in Manhattan for a few nights. That plan, however, is ruined before Fiona even steps foot out of the park she appeared in due to a demon attack.

Conveniently enough, a sexy werewolf who happens to be the second in command of his wolf pack is patrolling the park at the scene of the attack, saving Fiona's pretty little hide. And of course, since both were injured during the attack, Walker takes this mysterious woman back to his apartment of all places in order to nurse her back to health.... only to have her heal herself and then try to take advantage of him. What's a wolf to do?

I enjoyed the story, despite any sarcastic comments I make about the book.

Rafe and Tess reappear once more in this second installment and are their same witty, sarcastic selves. I'm delighted, and really wish that they had their own book focused on their relationship, but I suppose that's wishful thinking.

Walker and Fiona have an electric relationship, and the sex that they have is definitely steamy. But aside from them having sex, I was somewhat unconvinced at certain scenes about the "realness" of these characters and their relationship. Finoa's immortal and struggles with the fact that her mate is mortal. But then all of a sudden that problem gets conveniently solved by the end of the book. It appeared more like an afterthought than something that genuinely plagued the Faerie princess for a good portion of the story.

Then Walker is a complete ass in the beginning, only to suddenly pounce on Fiona a little while later. Maybe it's just me, but if there was a guy who was so delicious looking that I-melted-into-jello-any-time-he-touched-me, and he was acting like a jerk, I definitely wouldn't want to have sex with him after he treated me horribly for a good two or three days. But Finoa is just incredulous for a good few kisses before she gives in. And he marks her as his mate. The first time they have sex.

Aside from the romance between the two characters taking a backseat to sex, I really did enjoy this book. There was a great plot, and I guessed right on who the bad guy was! Secondary characters were definitely what made the scenes that much more amusing for me. Babbage and Squick were hilarious!

For $4.99 I can't complain too much about certain aspects that I personally did not enjoy. If you liked Wolf at the Door, you probably will enjoy this book, so check it out!

4.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful romp through the realms, December 30, 2006
This review is from: She's No Faerie Princess (The Others, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
Looking for an escape, Queen Mab's niece Fiona travels through a gate into modern day New York City and finds herself smack in the middle of negotiations to reveal the presence of Others (werewolves, vampires, et al.) to humans. When she's attacked by a demon, the stakes only get higher. Beta wolf Tobias Walker saves Fiona's life from the demon, and he's not happy the faerie stepped into the middle of these touchy negotiations. But she's brought more than than trouble and her good looks with her, and Tobias finds he can't resist the alluring fae.

She's No Faerie Princess was a fun, page-turning read. I liked Fiona's down to earth approach to being fae and the way she handled her grouchy alpha male (he might be a beta in the pack, but he's pure alpha here) had me smiling and reading well into the night. The passion between these two sizzles, and although I knew who the bad guy was as soon as he was introduced, I found it interesting to go along with the characters as they discovered it. I was a bit upset they didn't figure it out sooner, but hey, that left more time for scrumptous werewolf/fae sex and time to get to know a cast of characters that felt as warm and comfortable as old friends.

Obviously there's a sequel, and the character it's about is introduced into this book, but this is a great read to add some heat to a cold winter afternoon.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Fun Read With Two Characters to Cheer For, December 29, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: She's No Faerie Princess (The Others, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
Christine Warren's second book in The Others series is a better balanced and fleshed out novel than Wolf at the Door (The Others, Book 1), with a stronger narrative and creative world building that enhances the paranormal romance novel's base plot, which admittedly ISN'T the most original (creatures of myth and legend taking steps to come out to the general public about the truth of their existence), sufficiently enough to lift the book out of the doldrums of been-there-read-that and give it a breath of freshness.

Fiona is determined to buck her Aunt Mab's wishes...and Fae law...and get the vacation from court life she so desperately needs. She crosses into the human world and comes face-to-cloven hoof with a demon intent on feasting on her heart. Tobias is beta wolf to the silverback pack and pulling double and triple shifts protecting the humans during the sensitive time of negotiations between Other and humans for recognition and protection under the law. When Fiona's scream of terror sends him hurtling into her life, neither one of them quite regain their equalibrium and the world as they know it becomes more and more dangerous and the delicate negotiations are threatened.

Quickly paced with some depth in plot, with a strong and independent female protagonist and a sexy alpha male protagonist, She's No Faerie Princess (The Others, Book 2) is fun and funny, sexy and sentimental, with surprising depth in emotion in more than one instance. It was also nice to see familiar faces from the first book in the series, and new faces have some intriguing potential. A very good read, and I'm looking forward to the third book in the series, The Demon You Know (The Others, Book 3).

4.0 out of 5 stars This is Book #8 in the series... not book #2, January 12, 2010
By
I prefer to read a series in order, and I didn't realize that I wasn't until the "Big Bad Wolf"
According to her web site, there are 4 books that in this series that haven't been published (they were written through Ellora's Cave and could have been downloaded, but they are no longer available).
The actual reading order of these books are:
1. One Bite with a Stranger (Regina & Dmitri... the first of the Fantasy Fix's)
2. Big Bad Wolf (Missy & Graham)
3. not yet published (Danice & Mac)
4. not yet published (Corinne & Luc)
5. not yet published (Tess & Rafe)
6. not yet published (Logan & Honor)
7. Wolf at the Door (Sullivan & Cassidy)
8. She's No Faerie Princess (Fiona & Tobias)
9. The Demon you Know (Abby & Rule)
10. Howl at the Moon (Noah & Samantha)
11. Walk on the Wild Side (Kitty & Marcus)
12. You're So Vein (Ava & Vladimir)
13. Born to be Wild (Eli & Josie)
According to the web site, these books can be read alone or in order, but after reading You're So Vein, where Missy & Graham are already together and then starting Big Bad Wolf, where Missy & Graham get together, was a little confusing at first.
I think I would have given this series a 5 star if it wasn't for that confusion.
