Book Description

August 2, 2005
Camille Roberts is about to marry a very wealthy, much older man. She has told her best friend, Lola St. James, that she will only marry for money and not for love. She is convinced that she is not the corporate type. In fact, she has underlined the fact that she would be perfectly comfortable just staying at home and looking after an entire pack of kids. But, any dreams of children will have to be shelved since her older fiancé (57 years old), has already raised three children of his own - two girls and a boy - all of whom are excelling in their respective careers, and has neither the time nor the interest in becoming a father again. He has told her that he will not change his mind on this matter, and so she will just have to console herself with all the things his money can buy her.

Camille is forced to make a hard choice. Marry for love and live a modest traditional life with a good, nine-to-five working man, or marry for money and live the lavish jet-setting life of the rich and famous. Camille chooses to go for the money, and a lavish wedding is planned.

But, two months before her scheduled nuptials, Camille decides to treat herself to one final fling of the riotous kind. A "get your groove back," trip to Jamaica, where she will - for one final time, deliberately seek out and bed the sexiest, most booty-licious young man she can find - before settling down to a life of placid sexuality.

Praise for CHANGING THE RULES:
"Romance with a hip attitude. . .steamy sexual tension and exuberant energy."--Publishers Weekly

"In this funny, sexy, very contemporary romantic comedy, the rules ultimately bend nicely, with satisfactory results for all concerned. This lively, sassy romp has appeal far beyond the targeted African American readership."--Library Journal

"Stanhope writes with humor and compassion about young black professionals and their quest for true love."--RT Bookclub magazine

"The romance is appealing, as fans will like the antics of the lead duo particularly Marcel."--Midwest Book Review

5.0 out of 5 stars Love at what cost?, August 12, 2005

This review is from: She's Gotta Have It (Mass Market Paperback)
Camille Roberts is determined that she will only marry for money. Love comes in a poor second for her in SHE'S GOTTA HAVE IT by Niqui Stanhope. She has found a 57-year-old rich man who has asked her to marry him. He's not much in the love department, and he doesn't want any children, but she's willing to forego all that for the unlimited credit card he gave her while they were engaged and the thought of her life of leisure after they are married. Knowing what she'll be giving up and feeling the need for one last mad lovemaking session, she travels to Jamaica on her friend's private jet for a final fling. She is determined to find the most sexy, good-looking man for a one-night stand because she doesn't believe in being an unfaithful wife, even if her husband isn't interested in satisfying her physical needs. What she doesn't count on is falling head over heels for that one-night stand: a poor Jamaican hustler, or so she thinks. Just how important is money to her after all?

This is an amusing romp through the fairy tale life of Camille Roberts. It is well written and definitely makes you want to visit Jamaica to see the island paradise for yourself. There are enough twists in the plot to keep if from becoming an ordinary romance story. At times the suspense gets a bit tense, forcing you to continue to turn those pages.

5.0 out of 5 stars delightful contemporary romance, August 3, 2005
This review is from: She's Gotta Have It (Mass Market Paperback)
Camille Roberts is marrying for money as she knows the comforts of wealth make up for her itch not properly scratched by her Anthony. Camille is staying at the exclusive Hedonism III on northern Jamaica as her final groove before she ties the knot. At a masquerade party, she meets attorney Harry Britton. That night on the sheets she finds her groove; Harry does too though she wore her mask throughout their sexual encounter. In the morning light, Camille is gone leaving diamonds behind as a payment.

The son of Guyana's Prime Minister Harry has access to strong support when he requires it. He needs it because he wants more from this mysterious Camille who flew back to the states in a private jet. He begins his search for her while she wonders if her safe marriage is worth the effort as she cannot get Britton out of her mind or her rebellious body. When Harry finds her as he knows he will; he plans to kiss her all over, but hide his affluent background from her.

HE'S GOTTA HAVE IT, the sequel to WHATEVER LOLA WANTS, is a delightful contemporary romance starring two likable protagonists. The key to Niqui Stanhope's tale is that although Camille appears ready to marry for money, she remains a nice person. The return of Lola in a strong supporting role adds depth of understanding what motivates Camille to go for the money though many readers will not like her attitude anyway. Harry is a fine counterpart to Camille as they reverse perceptions about one another. Fans will want to read Ms. Stanhope's fine tale.

Camille Roberts will only marry for money instead of love just like any typical woman. The guy she's will marry is 57 years. He already has three children of his own two girls and a boy, that's the reason why he doesn't want to have any more kids. This book tells what people go through everyday.
