Terrific "tell it like it is" guide for new fathers,
By A Customer
This review is from: She's Had a Baby: And I'm Having a Meltdown (Paperback)
This is a wonderful book for new dads. My husband and I read it together and laughed all the way through at the memories it evoked of coping with the trying times of our daughter's infancy. Mr. Barron uses a humorous approach to inform fathers of both the good times and difficult times to expecet with a new baby. It is an easy read, broken into bite-size segments - perfect for parents with little time to sit down and read a book. We also liked that Mr. Barron discussed the changes he faced in his marriage after his child was born. We found the book to be so truthful and fun that we bought a copy for a friend of ours who, along with his wife, was expecting his first child.

Clearly the essential book for fathers,

Although we read other books on fatherhood, Mr. Barron's content and tone were the most accessible, realistic, and - in hindsight - accurate. His humorous delivery allowed us to discuss the issues of parenting in a more relaxed atmosphere than many other books inspire. We continue to refer to it as our marriage grows and changes. We now give this book to all our friends who are expecting.

... this book is definitely worth it to read about babies from a real guy's perspective. Heck, you can only read about placentas and diaper rash so much before you go woozy and start playing "Once In a Lifetime" ("How did I get here?") by the Talking Heads non-stop. My wife is due in one month and I got some good advice from this book about things best known in advance (work to keep the romance alive). I'll read it again in a few months and I'm sure I'll get some more tips from it.

I saw Mr. Barron interviewed on the "Today" show. My wife will have a baby in one month and I was having a hard time finding a book for fathers. This book was the answer to my long search. This book was extremely insightful and had tons of great suggestions. I would definitely recommend this book to any new father...also look for his first book, which is just as great!

Not an authority.,
This review is from: She's Had a Baby: And I'm Having a Meltdown (Paperback)
Should all of us have time and resources to pretend that we are an authority on raising children, we could all write a book. The rest of us work and love our children as best as we can. If you've had one child and you are sensible, this book will do nothing but give you a chuckle or two. My copy is in the trash, with the last diaper. I hope the landfill is in Connecticut.

This helpful guide for new fathers is unique. His advice is priceless--for example, "Never ever say your work is more important than your wife's mothering and housework" is a lesson all fathers should learn. Equally valuable is the "10 Things Your Wife Likes to Hear When You Come Home From Work." My personal favorite is "I'm taping the ball game. Let's take the baby for a stroll." This book is a serious guide to fathering, served with humor and charm. Both parents will find it extremely useful."--Clarice J. A Must-Have for Dads-to-Be,
By A Customer
This review is from: She's Had a Baby: And I'm Having a Meltdown (Paperback)
This is the best book that I have found that is written for men. My husband and I have been reading it together. James Barron is very enlightening while providing a great deal of humor. He talks about the emotions of the husband that most of the books don't even mention. This is a MUST-READ for all men who want to be active in the pregnancy or who just want to know that he isn't crazy! It is also a great-read for the wives!

I am a mother of an 18 month-old daughter and just today read this book at a Barnes & Noble book store while she was napping in her stroller (which happens rarely.) The book made me laugh. It made me feel good about our own parenting: nobody's perfect! I bought the book for my husband as a Father's Day gift. I recommend this book to every new parent (daddy and mommy.)
