5.0 out of 5 stars A masterful collection for its time.
I'm one of the myriad of listeners who once had the original copy and let it slip through my hands in a "temporary lack of judgment" (sold it for chump change to a used-CD store clerk who probably listens to Sum-41 and thinks John Hughes is a dead president). 3.0 out of 5 stars Really good compilation
Worth your while getting it if you find it. It's not prime Kate Bush, but that probably won't matter to most of you. Minus one star for omitting the music to the hilarious 'lawn mower' dance sequence, which is ex-Clash drummer Topper Headon's cover of Gene Krupa's "Drumming Man." Any soundtrack with XTC on it shows good taste, though.

I'm one of the myriad of listeners who once had the original copy and let it slip through my hands in a "temporary lack of judgment" (sold it for chump change to a used-CD store clerk who probably listens to Sum-41 and thinks John Hughes is a dead president). In any case, over the ensuing years I've come back to my senses and recognized this album for its inherent pop value. No, it's admittedly not "essential" by anyone's standards, save the few who fell in love with it on emotional criteria alone. But it's a fine pop classic. Particularly attractive on this album are Everything But the Girl's "Apron Strings" (presented as an alternate version not found on any other album on the planet), Carmel's "It's All in the Game," and that forgettable 80's product by Dr. Calculus. Though Carmel's song apparently appeals more to me than to most other listeners, EBTG's "Apron Strings" was a hands-down favorite across the board. We can be grateful, however, that XTC and General Public's Dave Wakeling are still here, supported by Kate Bush's immortal "This Woman's Work" (an undeniably touching moment in its own right). IRS Records had a gem on their hands back in '88, and despite the contractual red tape it must've taken to set this in motion, we should be grateful that Hughes Music issued this re-release 15 years later. In light of today's dime-a-dozen movie soundtracks, this compilation is a fading glance backwards at something now unacheivable. If you ever come across my original copy of the "She's Having a Baby" soundtrack in your local used CD store, pay the man whatever he's asking for it, take it home, and wear it out. In the meantime, buy eight or nine copies of this one here (it's identical to the original!).

This one is a tough one. I tried last year to buy this for my wife (lost our original) and nobody had it...except...Camelot Music...and they had to order it - said it would take about 1 week. Good luck finding it - if I do, I'll let you know where!

Love the movie and the cd. Got movie but no cd and cannot find it anywhere. I went to several retail stores and was told they can order it then the bad news: No,it is out of print. With as many people that want this cd (I thought I was only the only one) I'm sure Amazon.com can twist someone's arm to reissue this great cd. Please help Amazon!

5.0 out of 5 stars Found Apron Strings, December 4, 1999
This review is from: She's Having A Baby (1988 Film) (Audio CD)
Just some help on fans of this hard to find collection. There are emails here to help you find Kate Bush, but I just found "Apron Strings". It is on the 88 release of Everything But the Girl's Idlewild cd. They have that here at Amazon. I just hope they will reissue the She's having a baby cd soon.

My friend and I have listened to this tape until it is completely worn out. The songs on the album completely move me. "This Woman's Work" made me realize ten years ago that there are just some things that I will never have the chance to know, and that humbled me. I have looked for a CD for two years and have been out of luck. Will nobody reissue this great soundtrack?

I can't believe this sountrack is no longer in print. All of the tracks are totally great. Our copy was lent to a relative, who then had it stolen in a break-in. We've been looking for a copy of this CD for a few years, with no luck. The songs on this CD stir emotions from the movie. Also, these songs are great examples of 80's music. I think this CD should be in everybody's music collection.

This has got to be the absolute most awesome movie soundtrack out there, and you can't even get it! But rest assured there will be an overstock of "Beavis & Butthead do America". Please....re-release the ORIGINAL soundtrack!

4.0 out of 5 stars 80s to the max, but still great, November 4, 2003
By

The film that this soundtrack represents (when it's actually in print) was a funny little gem, and from the Breakfast Club on, John Hughes always made sure that his soundtracks were very carefully assembled.

In this case, some great alt-rock from Gene Loves Jezebel ("Desire"), a classic crooner by Bryan Ferry ("Crazy Love"), a Smiths cover by Kirsty MacColl ("You Just Haven't Earned It Yet Baby"), and one of Kate Bush's best tracks ("This Woman's Work") round out a phenomenal collection of essential 80s tracks.
