5.0 out of 5 stars A minor masterpiece, sadly overlooked.
Wow. How did this album go unnoticed? It's as if a bunch of talented, musical lunatics were hiding in the recording studio when the Beatles were making "Abbey Road" and waited until the Fab Four left. Then they leapt from the shadows, grabbed George Martin before he could get his coat on, and at gunpoint made him produce an extended "Abbey Road" coda, a quirky, edgy...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not up to the usual quality
I have other Chumbawumba CD's and really like them. This is the first clunker. The audio quality is poor...that or they group just has a bad case of the mumbles. Buy X or WYSIWYG but I think this one is a turkey.

Wow. How did this album go unnoticed? It's as if a bunch of talented, musical lunatics were hiding in the recording studio when the Beatles were making "Abbey Road" and waited until the Fab Four left. Then they leapt from the shadows, grabbed George Martin before he could get his coat on, and at gunpoint made him produce an extended "Abbey Road" coda, a quirky, edgy collage filled with hilarious--and often gorgeous--in-your-face social commentary. "Shhh" is loopy and profane, clever and funny, filled with catchy tunes and dirty lyrics. It owes much to the Paul McCartney/George Martin approach to creating a cohesive whole by stringing together an odd assortment of songs and musical segues, but without the silliness; Chumbawamba mixes memorable tunes with overdubbed street noises, English music hall accompaniment, French horns, BBC news broadcasts, barnyard Sgtpepperstuff, and close harmonies, then tosses in an abundance of off-the-wall, anarchist philosophy ("...I'm havin' a wonderful time, drunk on communion wine..."). It's an amazing journey that's fun to take over and over again. It's a tasty audio feast that keeps heading somewhere new. Invite your most musically inclined friends over for a huge plateful. It's delicious. STEVE MOSS smoss@fix.net

5.0 out of 5 stars Shhh shows off Chumbawamba's many faces, March 14, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Shhh (Audio CD)
It's too bad most folks know Chumbawamba only by their commercially successful, yet banal, Tubthumber cd. Shhh exhibits the band's real ability to adroitly mix musical themes with political and social commentary, all with a special blend of humor. Hope Chumbawamba sticks to those roots and doesn't become sterilized by the allure of their new stardom.

5.0 out of 5 stars Without doubt an outstanding album of pure brilliance., June 23, 2003

As far back as I can remember, I have had much respect for this more than talented band. Great friends of Margaret Thatcher...lol... they have trawled through the eighties and of course up to the present day, masters of political and religious ridicule which is heavily present in each of there many albums. Shhh is no exception. The music is a mix of classic punk distorted guitar played with great tradition of the late seventies, catchy flowing keyboards, bass and drums in perfect unison, all wrapped up with those lyrics that make the most hardened capitalists squirm... Believe me, this album is a must for anybodies collection, and if you have not had the pleasure of sampling this most under rated band of all time, this album is the one I reccomend you start with... and if you ever get chance to see them live, well, I suppose thats another review... and experience...

Chumbawamba has a great sound and taste in music, Shhh is a great album with fun beats and serious yet enjoyable tracks, you don't have to compare their other work to judge this album, Shhh is an album Chumbawamba produced, they took their time to put out a record people should listen to, this album contains great lyrics and has sweet music , if you are open to any kind of music, Shhh is an album that contains sweet music, Even though i'm a nobody, I loved this album, you should give this CD a try.

5.0 out of 5 stars best chumbawamba album, but not my favorite, May 29, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Shhh (Audio CD)
my favorite is Anarchy. This album is full of great music, but it has something that makes it the best, but lacks something that makes me to not have it as my favorite.
I listened to a 30 second demo of "happiness is just a chant away" and I bought this album as fast as I could. It's as great song. although the other songs are quite slow, but in a good way, i enjoyed this whole album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Shhh and its songs, May 6, 2007
This review is from: Shhh (Audio CD)
the Shhh sessions from Chumbawamba are awesome! Shhh gives you great rock music and great chants to shout and sing along to. it features just about any type of rock music put into one album, each song never takes a break and keeps you dancing until they tell you "Shhh" at the end! LOL

3.0 out of 5 stars Average Chumbawamba CD, November 21, 2003
This review is from: Shhh (Audio CD)
Just average, not one of their best.
Anarchy, WYSIWYG, Tubthumper and Readymades are much better. I like Chumbawamba's music a lot and I kept listening to all of them the last few months. I've recently bought Shhh and I think I could easily forget about it.
Not bad but you won't miss anything by not listening to it.

5.0 out of 5 stars shhhhh? ... nah!, September 10, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Shhh (Audio CD)
funny... the title doesn't match to this record. chumbawamba is shoking in many ways. but the most shoking is their attitude toward music making. shhh is definately very experi-mental(ly ill?) and really a big fun! i know a better record of theirs and namely: "Anarchy" - that's smashing!
