5.0 out of 5 stars Easy and elegant read
If you ever are stranded on a desert island, and you happen to have a bunch of rope, and a very lucky partner, this would be the only book you would need!!!

This book is a perfect blend of, solid foundation education, and elegant, intimate art-form.

The pictures are crisp, detailed and easy to understand and the author is extremely knowledgeable...

2.0 out of 5 stars It's Okay.
I think this book is okay. If you are into rope art and are a beginner, I would recommend The Two Knotty Boys, Showing You The Ropes. This book breaks down the different knots and such, also, more detailed photos, in my opinion.

If you ever are stranded on a desert island, and you happen to have a bunch of rope, and a very lucky partner, this would be the only book you would need!!!

This book is a perfect blend of, solid foundation education, and elegant, intimate art-form.

The pictures are crisp, detailed and easy to understand and the author is extremely knowledgeable and takes you through the various names in japanese which is where the art form originates from. What i liked was that the author really made it fun and easy to understand.

This was a perfect beginners book, from learning the type of rope to use, to care, maintenance and safety, and then the basics...all the way up to very beautiful and intricate multi color rope corsets. yum.

5.0 out of 5 stars Helpful intro to Shibari., October 10, 2007
This review is from: Shibari You Can Use: Japanese Rope Bondage and Erotic Macramé (Paperback)
Informative, helpful, and at times delightfully conversational and silly, this book does a good job of simplifying what can look complicated. It also provides a firm foundation to explore and experiment far beyond its pages. A must have for those interested in rope work.

5.0 out of 5 stars I don't agree with a lot of these reviews....., November 28, 2008

This review is from: Shibari You Can Use: Japanese Rope Bondage and Erotic Macramé (Paperback)
When I was looking into getting this book, I read the reviews and ordered it. After getting and reading this book I don't agree with the other reviews. I agree it is an excellent book, but I don't think this is the book to get if this is your first time doing rope work. If you have never done any rope bondage before, I would suggest getting the book "Two Knotty Boys Showing You The Ropes: A Step-by-Step, Illustrated Guide for Tying Sensual and Decorative Rope Bondage by Two Knotty Boys". The color photo's and the way they are placed next to each other make it a much easier book for a beginner to learn, in my experience and my opinion. Now if you already have that book and want to learn more techniques, designs and styles then definitely get this book. If you have been interested in rope bondage for a long time and are finally getting the chance to learn and you know that you are going to love it and continue to do it, then get them both if it's in your budget. This book if full of great information, very well written, has a great way of wording things. Although the black and white photo's, as well as their spacing onto several pages made it hard to follow. While on the bed while working the ropes and having to turn pages at the same time is a task I am good at or enjoy. For example, the chest harness starts on page 52 and finishes on page 61.

I like "Two Knotty Boys" better. This has some beautiful designs, but some of the pictures are a little difficult to follow. There are alot of variations on chest harnesses in this book. It's a good addition to my growing collection of rope bondage books though.

4.0 out of 5 stars For the love of rope, February 7, 2010

This is a great instructional book for anyone with an interst in rope bondage as a form of body art. The instructions are clear and the ties transferable making it easy to start creating your own style of rope bondage. as a not quite beginner I found this book gave me a lot of new stuff to work with. Love the rope corsets. When is the next book coming out?

I'm a photographer, and also a web designer and publisher. I was called on by a friend to shoot stills for one of his foot [...]. videos and was told that his main model wanted to do a bondage theme.

Right.

Keep in mind that all parties involved have SEEN bondage work, but have never actually DONE any...

So, being the industrious person tha I am, and also wanting to get the best shots possible, I thought, 'Hey, why not learn to do some tying for the shoot?' This was on a Monday, the shoot was to be that Saturday. So, thanks to Amazon Prime (which screwed up and delivered my book a day later than promised...) I had the book in time for the shoot.

As schedules go, I was unable to practice any tying until about an hour before the shoot. So, as my model was getting her makeup done, I was practicing on her. Before finishing, my videographer and his model showed up and liked what they saw. As things went, I later applied the same tie to both models and it worked out great. I had to use the book as a guide during the shoot, and it was pretty easy to follow.

Now what I need is more rope and more time.

If you're thinking of indulging your bondage urges, buy this book.

In fact, just buy it anyway. It's well-written and helped me in a pinch. I'm confident that, given more time, I'll be able to use this book to even greater success.

Cheers,

Wordman

5.0 out of 5 stars Shibari I use, February 16, 2010

As a bondage enthusiast and instructor, I have a significant selections of books in my library. This one however was a recent addition when I happened to meet Lee at a workshop. At the time I purchased the book to help support a starving artist/author passing through town, and it went strait to the bookshelf when I got home.

I was having a rope enthusiast meeting at my place and honestly had no idea what I wanted to select as a theme. Lee's book provided the inspiration, the bondage in that book was simple but clever, and allowed me to settle on Corsetry as my theme.

I've since run through the book more thuroughly and have really enjoyed the idea's it's given me for variations on the bondage I've been practicing for 10 years.

The book may have it's editing errors here and there, but for practical and useful bondage it's a lovely book and I'm glad I own it.

1.0 out of 5 stars This Is A Horribly Written Book, December 23, 2008
This review is from: Shibari You Can Use: Japanese Rope Bondage and Erotic Macramé (Paperback)
I would not recommend this book to anyone.

The instructions are confusing; the illustrations are unclear; terminology is different from one part of the book to another; PAGE NUMBERS ARE EVEN WRONG!!!

This book is so poorly written it got me confused on bindings I already knew how to do.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not for beginners; not for fun., December 14, 2010

This review is from: Shibari You Can Use: Japanese Rope Bondage and Erotic Macramé (Paperback)
This isn't the book you learn how to do Japanese rope bondage with. This is one for someone who's done it a lot and/or has a very patient bottom. This is for the people who like to look fancy.

I wouldn't even really qualify it as Japanese bondage. The ties are too symmetrical. Japanese bondage is usually the opposite, with contortions in various directions. I don't even recall that being discussed here.

The macramé part is definitely covered though.
