Product Description

Dew Shields (dew caps) trap stagnated air in the front of the telescope. The temperature of the stagnated air is slightly higher and is enough to prevent dew from forming. Dew shields can be use as a shade to block stray light from entering the telescope or during daylight torrential viewing. Stay light lowers image contrast. ATOZstars Flexible dew shields are made of black close-cell light weight foam rubber sheeting, which is non-reflective and a good insulation material. The foam rubber sheeting forms the cylindrical shape with Velcro. The dew shield rubber sheeting is slightly elastic which allows a snug fit on the telescope tube. The dew shield can slide forward as dew shield or slide back onto the telescope tube on most telescopes to protect the telescope from accidental scratching of the telescope tube. The flexible dew shield can be store away easily by roll up tight, lay flat or stays on the telescope. Rigid dew shields are difficult to store especially large ones.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works pretty well and portable., June 19, 2009

This review is from: Meade #678 Dew Shield Compatible Flexible Dew Shield for Meade ETX-125EC Series Telescopes (Electronics)
This dew shield will do it's job just like the solid (and less portable) version.

I haven't had it long enough for there to be much wear on it but the only problem I can see would be that it is held together with velcro witch tends to fail after prolonged use. And it's not exactly perfectly circular like the hard version and may interfer with the light gathering of your telescope if its not put on just right. Or if it gets an undesirable crease in the material somehow.

I have to say however. I have not yet had these problems in several trips to the field and it is much easier to just roll this baby up and stick it in your tripod/telescope case.

I failed to notice that it was a flexible version when I bought it as I was simply going by the part number of 678 but I am so far happy that I wound up with this one instead and I recommend it to anyone with limited storage space or to anyone simply looking for the best portability.

If storage space/portability is not a problem however do get the hard version if you can find one. It's easier to put on and will likely last a lifetime if cared for properly, unlike the flexible version witch will most certinly fail one day due to the velcro going bad.
