Great Book. Jayne Ann Krentz does it again,
By A Customer
This review is from: Shield's Lady (Lovestruck) (Paperback)
If you liked Jayne Ann Krentz's 'Jayne Castle' books you will like these too. There is more fantasy in "Shield's Lady" and the other Glass books: "Sweet Starfire" & "Crystal Flame", then in the Castle books. Unfortunatly, the Glass books are not connected together. The plot is solid with great dialog and plenty of action and suspense. The culture of the world is fully fleshed-out with significant differences from ours. There is plenty of originality. I hope she uses this world again.

Sci fi meets romance as only Jayne Anne Krentz can do,
By
This review is from: Shield's Lady (Mass Market Paperback)
A piece of trivia - this book was published in 1989 under Amanda Glass. I read this before I read any Krentz. Like all Krentz books, there are strong, intelligent women, and strong, teachable men. A very satisfying book. PS those that enjoy this side of Krentz will probably like her books written under Jayne Castle.

Well worth waiting for,
This review is from: Shield's Lady (Mass Market Paperback)
I had heard of this book for a long time and as a big fan of Jayne's books, I looked everywhere for it. When I finally found it, I took the whole evening to savor it. And I did. The characters in the book were very interesting and the chemistry was there. I like female characters that know they can live without the man in their lives but take a chance and go for it. I like male characters who reveal (even if it is only to the reader) that he has doubts that his woman is going to fall at his feet, even if they do. They are the same people we are and we can relate to them yet they are put in extraordinary situations and must test themselves and their love for each other. Take the night off, put on some soft music and savor this book with a glass of wine and a bowl of cherries. Good reading.

A new world worth exploring,
By A Customer
This review is from: Shield's Lady (Mass Market Paperback)
I find that I keep coming back to this book and re-reading it whenever my life verges on "quiet desperation." I enjoy a great many romance novels, but few that have the ability to take me to a place I would like to be over and over. The basic story of the arrogant, unplacable male disrupted by an independent minded female who hasn't realized her "place" takes on a new slant in this novel, and the science fiction elements add a dimension to the relationship that we all wish we could discover. This book is well worth the try...a look at two sides of life that should add some insight into one's view of society. Like all good romances, this one remains "true to the human heart," and Krentz's futuristic world is well worth the price of the passage

It got my husband's attention...,

This review is from: Shield's Lady (Mass Market Paperback)
I enjoyed to story line and the character's in the story...but what go my attention is the fact that my husband who dislikes romances sat down and read this story from start to finished..That is one book that has got to be the best in the world. it completely covers the Sci-Fi and romance. If it can hold my husbands attention and keeps his interest without him even once throwing book across the room in disgust. It is a good one.

I've been reading Jayne Ann Krentz's books for a long time but somehow I missed the Lost Colony Trilogy this book is part of. The other books in the series are Sweet Starfire and Crystal Flame. I was a little surprised because usually she writes these fantasy/sci-fi books under her Jayne Castle pen name. This trilogy is apparently popular enough to re-print twice but it was just OK for me.This book takes place on the planet Windarra with the descendants of human colonists who crash landed there. Originally there were two ships that ran into trouble trying to land; one filled with more business-type people landed on the eastern continent and the other with more creative arts and inventive people landed on the western continent. The types of people on the ships made civilization on the two continents develop very differently. Because so much technology was destroyed in the crash landings, there was only recently contact/travel between the two continents. Sariana, the heroine, is from the eastern continent and has come west to try to restore her standing in the financial community back east. Gryph, the hero, is from the Shield clan in the west and Sariana wants him to try to recover an important piece of equipment for her clients. Gryph isn't my idea of a great romantic hero in the beginning of the book. Men of his clan have a hard time finding women who can produce children with them and he pretty much tricks Sariana into marrying him. She's only been in the west for a year so she doesn't know all the laws of that continent and the Shield clan is not talked about much. Sariana thinks they're going to have a sexual affair but doesn't know it will make them married. Normally I wouldn't be too bothered by an unintentional marriage in a romance but Gryph is too overbearing and bossing for me. And I didn't "feel" the characters falling in love through the book so the romance didn't work all that well for me. This book has a lot of the elements present in most of the author's Jayne Castle paranormal/fantasy books: humans crash landing on planets and losing much of their technology, crystals left by an alien race that have mysterious powers, odd pets, and psychic/telepathic "links" between soul mates. This one was written before my favorites, Zinnia, Orchid, and Amaryllis, and I much prefer those novels. I'm not sure if I will look for the earlier novels in this trilogy or just re-read Zinna, Orchid or Amaryllis for yet another time.

One of my Favorites,

This review is from: Shield's Lady (Five Star Romance) (Hardcover)
I've always loved this book. A pretty good sci fi romance and better than some of the more recent sci fi romances of Ms. Krentz, which seem to be blurring together recently. This was a much clearer and crisper story. The history of the colonists was clearly told as was their development over the last couple of hundred years. Gryph is very alpha which is annoying at times and I just want Sariana to bop him upside the head. Sariana is a strong resorceful heroine and stands up to him. I just want her to win more often against his hardheadedness. I definitly enjoy books where the hero and heroine share a mental bond of some sort and that was happily fulfilled here.

If you are a fan of Jayne Ann Krentz's humor and full story plots, like fantasy and romance this book is for you. I fully enjoyed it as well as Sweet Starfire and Crytal Flame. I own most of her books and re-read them all more than once. I think if you do enjoy these books you will also enjoy her "flower" series of books written as Jayne Castle - "Amarylis", "Orchid" and "Zinnia".

try this author's other pen names,

I just reread Shield's Lady the other day and it is a great book. My copy is printed under the name Jayne Ann Krentz. I have of ton of this woman's stuff. She has written several other sci-fi romances similiar to this one but in different worlds - Orchid, Amarylis, Zinnia, Sweet Starfire, Gift of Gold etc. Some of her new futuristic stuff is being published under the name Jayne Castle. She also writes under the names Amanda Quick (historicals), and Stephanie James (short contemporaries). If you have books of hers under this Glass name they are probably worth much more than cover price!
