This thing is a piece of junk. I purchased 2 of these, not through Amazon, but my local Kohls last Christmas (one for me, one for my mom). The software intferface to download pictures is a joke (lets say circa 1980 software technology) and then broke after using it twice, simply would not power up. So, I called "merchsource", who was pleasant on the phone to deal with and gave me an RMA # to return the product. So, I sent it in, waited 6-8 weeks and just yesterday I recieved a package back. Guess what, they replaced the item BUT WITH A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT ITEM! They sent me the equivilent of a $20 keychain photo album with a 1" screen. No letter, no comment, just a blank packing list. I am not in the least happy with my replacement item, as if I wanted a 1" screen to view photo's, that is what I would have bought (again, for $20 vs. the $99 I paid). What a rip off. I will be calling them back, wish me luck...I think I am out my $100 (actually $200 if you count the one that my mom has that I am sure either is broken, or will be soon).

Well, I purchased this as a gift for my father-in-law and he left it with me so I could download some photos to it. Thank goodness I have this darn thing and not him! First of all, I charged the battery for a long time (like 2 days) because I kept checking the item, it looked and said it was still charging...I finally found out it is only supposed to take 3 hours! Even after all of the charging time, the battery only reads that it is 2/3s charged. Second, the little rubber USB door doesn't stay closed, and Third ~ the software CD doesn't work! The files won't download nor open on my computer (a new lap top) therefore I can't download any photos to the album without the software. I am going to return it for a new one and try again. I will update my review if all goes well...I purchased one for my mother-in-law as well and I am afraid to ask her how her experience was so far.

I bought this for my mother, and decided to load all the pics onto it first. Well, got everything hooked up and working, and then I realized you cannot size it down to just choose the faces in a pic, rather then the whole thing i.e.mountains, trees, etc. The only thing you can do is rotate it, and then your picture is now sideways. The only solution I can come up with (which I won't do) is to individually crop 500 pics, and THEN load them to this software. If you know of a way to resize in the shift3 software, please let me know. 2hollars@earthlink.net. Thanks!

Please read on the other reviews as well. This thing is just junk. Don't waste your time buying and trying to get it working. I found that the hardware and software are both inoperative, my 3 computers none see the device as usable for putting pictures to and the software included most time will not recognize the device, when it does it fails when trying to access it. Nice idea - not worth 50cents.

If you are the type of person who reads reviews for honest feedback on an item before you buy it, then continue reading. The shift3 portable photo album is a waste of money. The idea of using this item to have quick assess to your pictures is a good idea, but the design and capability of this product is worthless. I would highly recommend going with another product. It's like the Ugo's of digital photo albums. For example, I will start with the hardware and then the software. The photo album itself is in front of me still charging (it's been hooked up for over 24 hours). Formating the hardware to recieve pictures via Windows took two phone calls, hours of research, and then the solution isn't cheap. Furthermore, the software DOES NOT allow certain changes to photo in which you expect. YOu really would have to to crop every photo and still after some serious time in, the final product is not what you want, and you realize using your phone is a lot better. Again, the idea of a digital photo album is good, but this product is not good at it.

I loaded the software on my (XP) PC, it says XP is supported yet I get an Memory Access Violation and can not even load the Pictures on the viewer!

I even downloaded the only version out there on and it too gives a memory access violation.

I can live with editing the photos, I don't think I'd ever put 500 (itty bitty) photos on it even if I could get it to work... but since the memory in this little view is not formated for "drag and drop" you have to use the software to load the pictures, and the software won't run at all! I can't get even 1 picture to move over due to the memory access error.

This is a discontinued model, and now I know why! I will be sending mine back!
