4.0 out of 5 stars Most intense live band I've ever seen live, May 22, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Shihad (Audio CD)
Being just across the pond from their homeland, I've had many opportunities to see Shihad play live (most recently at the Iron duke in Sydney). Their intensity and energy on stage is matched by the quality of their albums and material. I've been a fan since Churn was released and I picked it up on the spur of the moment(no regrets). I would have to say that whilst there is definitely the distinct Shihad sound on the self-titled album, the peak of their work (and my favourite Shihad album) is Killjoy (unfortunately not available on amazon for all you Americans). The hard, raw, and industrial intensity of Churn is just incredible. Turn this album up very loud (my favourite after Killjoy), But by all means get the self-titled album, you won't be dissapointed...

5.0 out of 5 stars Kiwi's Rock, July 31, 2002
By
This review is from: Shihad (Audio CD)
New Zealand's own Shihad - (now known as Pacifier - ironically enough, they changed their name to "pacify" potential american audiences after Sept 11, cuz they thought Shihad sounds too much like Jihad)- The best rock outfit in a long time - these guys are real rock stars.. I just wish Australia would stop claiming them as their own, and the rest of the world would sit up and notice.

Iggy pop, Faith no more, and others have lauded the boys from the 'had.. just check 'em out for yourself. Especially if you like big rock, kind of industrial, with a punkish edge.

check out 'La La Land', 'Yer head is a rock', and 'Pig Bop'.. also check out their next album after this "The General Electric", and "The Blue Light EP"... tunes to watch for 'my mind's sedate', 'wait and see', 'the thin white line', 'sport & religion'.

Go The 'had!!

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 Stars Plus, March 1, 2003
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Shihad (Audio CD)
This is the best Shihad (in my opinion) album. Runs the gauntlet with Hard Rock, Blues Rock, little Punk Rock, and a great ballad to finish it (Boat Song). Everything song has a little different slant/sound to it. Highly recommended!!

4.0 out of 5 stars pretty darn good, February 14, 2002
This review is from: Shihad (Audio CD)
Good third release from this New Zealand band. Not as groundbreaking as 'Killjoy' but a solid release nonetheless. Production is tight and the songs are good; albeit more straightforward than previous releases.

4.0 out of 5 stars Shihad (Pacifier) Shihad, January 19, 2005
By
This review is from: Shihad (Audio CD)
This album was the first of the new lighter sound Shihad put out. Their previous albums were HARDOUT!...they kind of went a bit soft..but in doing so proved they can really write a good tune, and appeal to a much wider audience. Apparently Iggy Pop considered them to pretty good at the time!. However , changing their name to Pacifier and an attempt to break into America proved their downfall, both in cred and sound.
Now re-renamed Shihad!, they have decided to get back to NZ and be what they originally were...a hard out rocking good band...new albums are apparently in the works under their old moniker.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Perfect blend of all that is good in the world, May 4, 1999

This review is from: Shihad (Audio CD)
For their self titled album, Shihad have produced a sound which is commercially marketable without selling out their musical integrity. The album shares some thoughtful lyrics that everyone can relate to. I guarantee you know someone that fits Your Head Is A Rock or Hate Boys. What can you say? This is a must-own album of songs that will become the soundtrack to you life.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE MOST INCREDIBLE BAND ON THE FACE OF THE EARTH!, January 19, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Shihad (Audio CD)
This is the second most rock rock album in the history of my ears, and my ears have hit a lot of heavy surfaces. This is their second best album (hint hint); the earlier KILLJOY is a better introduction to the overwheming genius of this UNBELIVIABLY FANTASTIC band. I hope music lives with the soul in the afterlife because I would listen to Shihad FOR ETERNITY IF I COULD! They could well be the second coming of Jesus Christ and Bodhisatva. I will name my first born Shihad. The drumming is beyond the dreams of a hyperspatial deity. My pants are overflowing with good feelings. Thank you Shihad.

4.0 out of 5 stars New Zealands premier rock band comes up trumps again, January 1, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Shihad (Audio CD)
Shihads new self titled album explodes the moment you put in the player, with 'Home Again'.' It is a simple, catchy song that immediately sets the tone for the rest of the album. Easily accessible rock tracks with grungey riffs and a distinct lack of guitar solos. This is Shihads third release, after the 1993 'Pantera-esque' release 'Churn', and the 1994 album 'Killjoy.' With 'Shihad,' the band takes a distinct turn from flat out hard rock and moves towards a more melodic side, like on 'Hate Boys,' 'Yr Head is a rock' and 'Leo Song', while still retaining that edge that has made them New Zealands best rock band for many years. Killer cuts off 'Shihad' are the rampaging 'La la Land' (an ode to Los Angeles), 'A Day Away,' possibly the best song Shihad has ever written, and the grind that is 'Ghost from the Past' Not an essential album for your C.D Collection, but a excellent buy. The 4 stars say it all. Awesome.
