It made me cry!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Shiloh Autumn (Audio Cassette)
This is the best single book I've read by Bodie Thoene. It is so sad and emotional and yet at the same time so warm and uplifting. It is the story of a family struggling to survive during the Depression, and is very touching. It is a great book! I laughed at many parts, and at other times it made me cry my heart out for Birch and Trudy and their children. I don't cry reading many books, so don't dismiss this review as mushy and emotional- this book is one of the best- I definitely reccommend it!!

Where do I begin? This book, as each and every one of The Thoene's are, had me feeling unusually emotional. I had goosebumps and tears. I laughed out loud. These authors are so addictive I have bought every series they have written. My husband does not care to read, so I buy the cassette tapes and we listen to them while driving on trips. The characters feel like your own friends. The style of writing is so engrossing that it's hard to get into other books after reading theirs. I find myself sad once I finish the book because I do not want it to end. It's like some friends of mine are gone. Everyone needs to read this series, but read "In My Father's house", before you read this, because it is a continuation of the Shiloh Legacy Series. You won't regret this reading, ENJOY! Megan

Brought back many memories of my visits to Hartford, Ark..,
By A Customer
This review is from: Shiloh Autumn (Paperback)
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Shiloh Autumn. I bought it at a bargain counter at Sam's Wholesale. I had heard of the authors and was told they were good. Imagine my surprise when I read the name Hartford, Ark., which is the town I was born in in 1937. Hardford is 4 mile from Shiloh.Although, my family moved to Oklahoma City in 1941, we always went back to Hartford for Christmas and summer vacations. I remember the names of some of the places: Mansfiled, Monroe, Frogtown, James Fork river, Hartford Music Company, etc. My parents never mentioned cottom being raised there, by my grand- fathers and my dad were coalminers. It was inspirational and uplifting to see how the families faced difficulties and reached out to one another, seemingly never losing their faith in God. Yours truly, Mrs. Betty (Driver) Danley OKC P.S. I am curious to know if some events actually happened. Is there anyway I can contact the authors?

Description brings the Depression era to light!,
This review is from: Shiloh Autumn (Paperback)
The Thoenes are master writers/historians. Shiloh Autumn brings to life even day-by-day, mundane activities! The plot is very deep, engrossing, and surprising. This book will make you feel heartache, joy, hunger (for food and for the Lord!), and love. I highly recommend this book to anyone who may need to see that their life may not be as bad as others' lives now and throughout history. The characters, events, and era were as brightly described as if you were actually laboring and laughing right along with them! A must read!

I've not read all of Bodie and Brock's books but am working my way there..The Shiloh Legacy has been my very favorite of all!! Shiloh Autumn has been somewhat difficult to locate until now..I'm hoping that means only that book stores are staying sold out!! I have recommended this and all the other series to so very many people and all have raved about them..Keep cranking them out!!

I Never Knew...,

Shiloh Autumn opened my eyes to the struggle of the Depression. I had never really known much about this time-period in America, but this book brought to life the hardships so many people endured. I highly recommend this book- it is worth your while.

Try the audio book for even liver characters!,

I'm a bookmobile librarian out of rural Arkansas. Contrary to popular belief, librarians don't have much time to read. Instead, I listened to the audio book. It was read by a man who tried to change his voice for the characters. It really helped the characters jump to life in your ear! I felt like I heard 10 Little House on the Prairie episodes wrapped into one book. I kept picturing Caroline Jensen, the store owner, as old Mrs. Olsen on the Little House on the Prairie. If you love Little House and good winning over evil even though you have to go through tough times, then you'll love this book. Also I would like to make a comment about the authors name. I had read in one of the books that is was pronounced: Ta-Nay and then the audio book reader pronounced it totally different. It looks to be German and could be pronounced: Turn-eh. Just curious. Love to hear Brodie or Brock's personal review.

One of my all time favorites!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Shiloh Autumn: A Novel (Hardcover)
Bodie and Brock Thoene are two of my favorite authors, and this is my favorite book that they have written. From the first page until the last I was caught up in the lives of the characters. Yes, I cried a lot, but I was also encouraged by the way the characters grew in the face of adversity. It is a great book.

This review is from: Shiloh Autumn (Discover the Truth Through Fiction: Thoene Family Classics Historical) (Paperback)
i have been reading books by bodie and brock thoene since i was a junior in high school. now that i am a senior in college, i still enjoy rereading their older books and discovering their newer books. i believe it is safe to say that you can never go wrong when you choose to read any of their books.
what is especially interesting about this book is the tremendous amount of detail in it and the complexity of each and every character, from "Caro-line" Jensen, to Jefferson and Willa-Mae Canfield, to Grandma Amos and even to little Joey Tucker. and what blesses me even more is that, unlike other Christian or non-Christian authors, she does not compromise the name of Christ. in fact, faith in Jesus even with all the craziness that happens in the world (good and bad), is the whole point. that when one puts their faith in Jesus and tests it against everything good and bad in this life, it always proves itself true and strong ("Never will I leave you or forsake you"-Jesus the Christ). i always learn something new, historically and spiritually, when reading thoene books. two thumbs up!
