They say you can't teach an old dog new tricks. But can a kid help an old grouch change his ways? Picking up immediately where the 1996 family favorite Shiloh left off, Shiloh 2: Shiloh Season continues the drama of a boy, his dog, and the dog's menacing original owner. Zachary Browne plays the part of Marty Preston, the young boy who rescued an abused beagle by standing up to local troublemaker Judd Travers (another convincing performance by Scott Wilson). Although Marty and Judd struck a deal, Judd seems bent on making the boy and his family pay in more ways than one for keeping Shiloh. Fueled by alcohol, Judd's suspicious character and his tendency to shoot whatever critters he pleases deeply disturb young Marty. Once again, the boy risks his own safety and exercises immense courage and compassion to turn Judd into a friend. Michael Moriarty and Rod Steiger reprise their roles as Marty's father and Doc Wallace, respectively. Because the sequel leans heavily on the original movie's plot, it loses its punch as a stand-alone show. Slightly tougher subject matter (the effects of alcoholism, in particular) warrants a slightly older audience; families with 7- to 12-year-olds should fare well. Based on the second book, Shiloh Season, in Phyllis Reynolds Naylor's popular children's trilogy. --Liane Thomas

From Parents' Choice®

Based on the novel Shiloh Season, this feature film sequel has the classic power of a boy and his dog. In the first installment, Marty saves the abused Shiloh. Now he turns his attention to saving the soul of Shiloh's abuser, and children will still be cheering for the dog. A 1999 Parents' Choice® Silver Honor Winner. (Yvonne Coleman, Parents' Choice®)

5.0 out of 5 stars Shiloh 2: Shiloh Season, March 27, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Shiloh 2 [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Shiloh 2 was an excellent movie! It is the sequel to the first one. Duh! It is about Marty and his dog, and the abusive owner who turns sentimental when he gets letters from Marty after an accident. He learns to love, even when he never received love as a child! I definately recommend it. I almost cried it was so good at the end. And the dog hit my soft spot.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Good Movie, July 11, 2000
This review is from: Shiloh 2 [VHS] (VHS Tape)
If like a good movie, if like watching something with a plot, if you liked the first Shiloh, then this movie is a must-see. I just watched this movie the other day after renting it and this is literally the best movie I've seen all year. I don't care what age you are, you will definately enjoy this movie. I do recommend watching the first Shiloh though, because that way you'll understand the sequel a lot better. This is an excellent movie, a great ending, great actors/actresses, and is something worth seeing on a good night.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good family movie, August 25, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Shiloh 2 [VHS] (VHS Tape)
My 5 year old daughter loves this movie and it's nice to finally see a movie where right is right and wrong is wrong. Marty learns about injustice and how to live with being wrongly accused. He also learns how to forgive and show compassion. This is a very good family movie that can spark some interesting discussion about morals and values.
