5.0 out of 5 stars It was a very touching story about what love can do to you., August 23, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Shiloh Trilogy (Library Binding)
This is an excellent book that had me hooked like a fish to a worm. This very talented author tells a story that didn't just come from her head, it came from her heart. The only bad thing is the way that they talked. Their dialect wasn't to great. Other than that is was marvelous.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Shiloh Trilogy a review by Jacob, December 30, 2003
A Kid's Review
Did you ever save an animal from a person who didn't treat it right? In the Shiloh Trilogy, by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor, a boy named Marty Preston of Friendly, West Virginia, is the protagonist of this story. Marty dislikes Judd Travers because Judd is treating a dog named Shiloh like a staircase by kicking and abusing him. Judd also shoots his gun just to startle Shiloh and scare him. Shiloh keeps running away from Judd because Judd is cruel to Shiloh. Who wouldn't! Shiloh keeps on running away from Judd's trailer to Marty's house. Should Marty give Shiloh back to the evil clutches of Judd or lie to Judd for the better?
One of the most exciting events of the story is when Judd started drinking. When Judd starts drinking, he becomes dangerous wherever he goes. It is like putting a gun to your head when he is around. Judd was so drunk that one day he drove his own truck into the ditch at midnight. If it wasn't for Shiloh, Judd would have been there until the next morning and that would have been too late. Once Marty and Shiloh were walking around the woods, when Judd tried to shoot at Shiloh or Marty. Will Judd ever stop drinking and stop this chaos?
Another exciting event that happened in the book was when the Prestons invited Judd over for Thanksgiving. We all know how that turned out! Judd just talked about how Marty owes the use of Shiloh for hunting. When Judd was sitting at the Preston's table, Marty's little sister, Becky used the incorrect words that made Judd's blood boil. Becky has the biggest mouth! Judd stomped out the door without a "thank you" or a "goodbye". Do you want to know what the words Becky used that made Judd so mad? Too bad. You have to read the story yourself!
After all this, will Judd come to his senses and accept the fact that Shiloh rightfully belongs to Marty? Will Judd stop drinking? Will Becky ever learn to watch what she says? Find out by reading the Shiloh Trilogy by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Shiloh Season by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor a review by Kyle, November 15, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Shiloh Trilogy (Library Binding)
Have you ever worked for somebody to buy their dog and a man wants to try

to kill it? Well, Marty Preston, the main character, has. He found a dog and named it

Shiloh. Marty wanted Shiloh but Judd Travers won't let him have it. Judd hunts and

he needs Shiloh to hunt. The problem is that Judd beats and kicks his dogs and Shiloh

doesn't like it. Marty worked for Judd so he could buy Shiloh. Marty bought Shiloh

but Judd tries to kill Shiloh so Marty wouldn't have a dog.

There are many things in this book that I enjoyed. The part I liked was when

David Howard, Marty's friend, scared Marty with a Halloween mask. A part I didn't

like is how Judd beats and kicks his dogs. Dogs or any other animals shouldn't be

treated like that. That is what I liked and disliked about this book.

The protagonist of this book is blonde haired, medium tall, and has a dog

named Shiloh. Shiloh is a beagle and loves to play with Marty and his sisters. The

personality of Marty is like any other boys. He is determined like when he wanted

Shiloh. But, he has a problem telling his dad stories about Judd causing trouble.

Marty has a couple of strengths and weaknesses. Marty's strengths are: protecting

Shiloh from Judd and protecting himself from Judd. Marty's weaknesses are:

telling his dad what happens.

Marty, I thought, was kind of cool. He protected Shiloh like I would with

my dog. He spends time with his family like I do. Marty stuck up for his friends,

Shiloh, and his family. This book can make you laugh or cry. I'm sure you'll

love this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Kid Who Risk His Life For A Dog, March 21, 2002
A Kid's Review
The Main Character is Marty. He loved the dog when he first saw him, and he named it Shiloh. His family wouldn't let him keep Shiloh because it was Judd's dog. I like this book because it talks about dogs having a big friendship with humans. The part I didn't really like is when some humans abuse their dog only because they do not obey their orders. This is a great book and I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to read it.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE POWER OF LOVE, December 13, 2000
This review is from: Shiloh Trilogy (Library Binding)
Marty and his equally delightful family have become literary staples and the Shiloh Trilogy literary classics!

Marty is a young boy who saves the life of an abused beagle whom he names Shiloh. Instead of turning on Shiloh's cruel, drunken owner with hostility and hatred, Marty and his family respond with love and Christian acceptance. Marty himself says that as much as he understandably dislikes the cruel Judd Travers, he would not wish him ill; he works for Judd so he can buy Shiloh and in the end is rewarded with a lovable little hound.

This trilogy reinforces many Christian themes such as love, forgiveness, hope and acceptance. It also reinforces the timeless message of "if you have a chance to repay good for good, do it. Pass it on."

Shiloh is truly a heartwarmer.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this book, May 27, 2004
A Kid's Review
I love this book. I also love the sequils! I read the first one in fourth grade and I read the other two in the summer time. I thought all the books were sad espectially this one. judd is a rude selfish and absolutely unkind resident. I just feel so bad about what people in the book had to go through. he steels and lies and never bothers to help anyone! if you like the first book you'll like all of them!

5.0 out of 5 stars Shiloh by Phillis Reynolds Naylor, April 25, 2002
A Kid's Review
Shiloh is a very good book about a boy named Marty Preston who finds an abused beagle on the road and names it Shiloh. When he finds out that Shiloh belongs to Judd Travers, a drunk and cruel person. Marty tries everything to make Shiloh his. During the night Marty wonders, "Should I tell Judd I have Shiloh so he could kick or starve him? Or should I fatten him up a little bit and make him healthier so he could glorify God's creation?" He knew the answer to that question. And he figured things were going pretty well for Shiloh. But when Judd and Marty's family find out. Marty unleashes all of Judd's fury on them as well. In the end Marty finds a way to have Shiloh for his very own.
