Shifting is more precise and faster.

The shimano pin is easy to install, but makes removal for cleaning more difficult, I only clean the shimano's on the bike with a chain cleaning tool and simple green.

Every chain I've ever installed myself on a mountain bike has been the XTR.

there are several good nine speed chains on the market. Most work well if you install them correctly, and don't over stress them. This chain, the cn-7701 runs smooth, shifts well, and last the longest on my three nine speed bicycles. The Sram chains sre good too, the cross step is very strong and well made, but the quick connect, master link sometimes "catches" on the shift faces and sends a shock through the drive train. The shimano pin is easy to install, but makes removal for cleaning more difficult, I only clean the shimano's on the bike with a chain cleaning tool and simple green. You can run the sram link on the shimano chains too. Finish line ceramic wet lube seems to give me the best service life and shifting. Follow shimano's instructions on install, check to make sure all the rivets are in place properly. If you must "break" the chain after the first install, go several links away from the first install pin.

I love these chains. I get about 700 to 1000 mountain bike miles. I don't mind the pins and I find them easier to use than the SRAM Powerlink, and are definitely more dependable. I switched to SRAM chains for a while and I would always replace them because they broke. I have never broken an XTR chain and I always just replace them when they stretch. I use the Rohloff chain wear indicator and replace it when the stretch is .75. I use ProLink chain lube almost every ride and it doesn't collect a lot of dirt.

Great looking chain. Using it with my Shimano XT 3 x 9 setup. Seems like it is made of high quality material. Installation require use of chain tool. Would buy again.

I installed this chain when I changed out my rear cassette (Ultegra) and they work perfectly together and provide smooth quick shifting.

Every chain I've ever installed myself on a mountain bike has been the XTR. They take the punishment of me hardly ever cleaning them properly, running dry and gritty when I forget my lube on a rude, powering through gear changes, cross-chaining the 3x9 completely, etc. They never fail. My beater/loaner ran one for 4 years with very little maintenance. This chain plus a SRAM PowerLink is the only combination I will use. I'm usually not a fanboy for certain products but I don't want to mess with success.

Used this chain for 3 years on my mountain bike before recently replacing it with the exact same one. It held up fabulously as long as the system is well adjusted and lubricated, never had a problem with shifting or anything

This Shimano CN-7701 Dura Ace XTR 9-speed Chain works well on my dura ace components. It comes with a standard chain pin but I also bought some quick link pins to use. I really like the chain and quick link combination.
