Dura-ace chains are getting expensive so this was a good price. I've tried others like sram but nothing works as good as Shimano. I replace my chain every year and try to keep at least one new chain handy.

I called Shimano as I was confused by the various Dura-Ace chain model numbers available on Amazon with no comparison. I was told the newer model Dura Ace CN-7901 (+$10) features a new directional design (the chain can only be put on 1-way) that is supposed to improve the smoothness of shifting.

I don't know how much better the shifting will get, but buyers of the 7801 should know there is a newer model available for $20 more.

What can you say.... it's a dura ace chain. It's awesome. it does it's job. I love my bike.

What can you say...The Shimnano Dura Ace chain is the best. Arguably overpriced but the best.

Obviously the CN-7801 chain was a top of the line chain from Shimano's line about 5 years ago. But for those of us who have bikes from that time or don't require the leading edge technology, this chain is a great value. New 105 or Ultegra chains cost as much as this chain and in my experience don't last as long.

On the three bikes that I have installed the CN-7801 on, it is more durable than the lower line 105 or Ultegra chains that were replaced. I typically get 3-5K miles from this model chain on my road bikes and more like 2-3K miles on the cyclocross bike, when I clean and relube them every 200 miles or so.

Just received my Dura-ace 10 speed 7801 today, USPS.
Awesome in the package for $39.51 including shipping to 4 days to get to me in Michigan.
This is cheaper, than I could get it at any shop at cost.
Actually $10 below cost.
A+ nothing beats Dura-ace, IMHO.
Been using only Dura-ace chains; since 1991, 1 each year, every Jan 1st of the new year with a new cassette.
Raced for 10 years in the early 90s to early 2000s, Cat 1-2 Road.
Tons of miles and races and a new Dura-ace chain once year.

I use this chain with a SRAM Rival drivetrain, but with Shimano 6600 cassette. Works great, and the price is right. Have also used Wipperman chains. As far as I can tell, the Shimano may be a little smoother and quieter, although I wouldn't say I've had any "issues" with the Wipperman. The bottom line is this: the Shimano is cheaper and works at least as well. I use a KMC link with mine, and have had no problems at all (2500 miles so far).

This was my first chain I ever purchased, it seemed good enough and was pretty easy to install.

Since it was my first chain I didn't realize the new chain comes much longer than needed. I simply took off the old chain and laid it next to the new chain, i then made them both the same length and knew it would be good enough.

After installing the chain i immediately noticed a difference in response and peddling (my old chain had a lot of miles on it), it was well worth the price it made the bike feel new again.

The Dura Ace chains seem to be the best value in terms of cost and performance. They're lightweight, easy to maintain, and I've never had a problem with one. Buying the 7800 series saves a lot of money and isn't substantially different from the new more expensive 7900 line. Amazon had this chain for about half the price of the local bike shops, so it was an easy decision. The money I saved on the purchase allowed me to have a shop install it and still spend less than if I'd bought it from a shop and installed it myself.

I have a friend with whom I have been riding who has the Dura-Ace 10-sp chain. He has broken his chain THREE times with me (3 different NEW chains). Each time I had to bail him out with my chain breaker by taking out the failed link (never the connector link). This guy is not big (5'8", 155lbs and is by no means an "animal" for strength). These 10-speed chains are super-weak. I have never had a Dura-Ace 9-speed break (nor have I ever ridden with anyone who has ever had a 9-speed chain break). Stay away from the 10-speed chains. My "new" bike has a KMC SL 10-sp on it and it is working well. The manufacturers are in such a race to be the lightest that they will sacrifice everything to suck you in.
