Good OEM replacement for Shimano,

This review is from: Shimano CN-HG53 9-Speed Chain, Silver/Black (Sports)
This performs well and is a good replacement for Shimano 9 speed (rear cluster) systems. The end of the chain comes with a pin ready to drive home. It also comes with an extra Shimano connecting pin and instructions in several languages. You will need to shorten the chain to match the length of your old chain before installing. I recommend grinding the end of the special Shimano pin smooth after breaking off the pilot section, if you use it to connect the chain. I also found I needed to tighten the barrel adjuster just a little to compensate for cable stretch. While my old chain did not skip, the new chain skipped a little at first, but has been fine since tightening the cable a little.
Update: I replaced this chain after 1,900 miles. The Park wear indicator tool showed the minimal amount of wear for advisable replacement. That is the same number of miles I got from the original chain. (We have some fine dust on the roads that gets into the chain, even if you clean and lubricate it regularly. The performance during its life was flawless.

Shimano Chain,

This review is from: Shimano CN-HG53 9-Speed Chain, Silver/Black (Sports)
I've been using this Shimano chain for the past 9 months. No problems at all. It fits really good the Shimano 9 speed set - rear derailleur M530 (rapid rise), cassette HG50, front derailleur M530, and crankset M532.

Well, I may have got a bad one, but even that speaks volumes with regard to quality control.
This chain is stock on the 2011 Merida Crossway 500d, I bought this bike 2 months and have not been riding it hard. Yesterday the chain snapped (a link failed/spread) and during the "walk of shame" home I had plenty of time to reflect on this quality component. I have not had a chain fail in 20+ years of cycling .... this as my first :-( Hoping there is a better quailty alternative !
