Peddling easier, November 9, 2006
The gears and ratio were great, the only problem encountered was the Locking ring would not fit my tool and had to use my old ring. Seems like they made the teeth on the locking ring too small as I have the correct tool. The guys at the bike shop had the same problem and have all the Park tools.

Shimano Ultegra CS-6500 9-speed Cassette, 12-27, June 4, 2010
Went on very easy and works like a charm as would be expected for the higher end Shimano products. A note for those who learn things visually - if you have not changed a cassette before the written instructions will frustrate you. There are many very good YouTube-like demo films on line that will visually walk you through the process.

Going from a 12T to 11T rear, you notice the difference.
Cassette was a breeze to install. Shifting is accurate, fast, and silent if you let up the pressure slightly as you go.
This went on a training bike with training wheels (Mavic CXP33), so no report on the liveliness of the wheel with less mass (not sure I'd even notice it, really); it was an inexpensive way to increase my wattage/interval intensity without pedaling hyperfast. Certainly cheaper than replacing the bike :)
I notice my saddle more with this gearing, the extra intensity of a session on rollers (I train indoors, daily) brings saddle pain to a higher level (for me, at least). Thus, a $70 purchase is turning into a $200 one :)
Pleased with the cassette, did the right things for the right reasons for the right cost, and you can replace it yourself (buy the Park cassette tool for $9, and use a pair of big channel-locks with cloth such as a washcloth in the jaws to hold the old cassette on the 17T ring, gently, you don't need a chainwhip).
