A very basic, shiny 8 speed cassette.

Shifts really well with a durable design, looks sharp and can be fully dissembled for cleaning or customizing. I have no use for 9 or more cogs on a cassette and don't ever want to suffer the cost and durability penalty. The one downside with the HG50 line is weight. They aren't light at all. Minimal material removal from the thick steel cogs, each of which sit individually on the freehub body is what keeps the cost down. More elaborate drilling or an alloy carrier would decrease the weight, but increase the cost and inhibit cassette customizing. Fancy new 8 speed cassettes like that don't even exist anymore, so this is the best you'll get if you're stubborn and won't switch to a system with more cogs than you need. Get over the weight, cause only competitive racers need to worry so much and if you use 8 speed, you're not that.
