I LIKE COASTER BRAKES FOR A LOT OF REASONS. HERE IN ONE RELIABLE PACKAGE IS THE DRIVE SYSTEM, HUB AND BRAKE.
50 YEARS AGO THIS WAS STANDARD ON MOST BIKES. I RODE A LOT OF MILES ON A KOMET-SACHS COASTER BRAKE AND NEVER WORE IT OUT! THIS SHIMANO IS THE LAST OF THE BREED. MUCH BETTER THAN THE CHINESE KT OFFERING. GET THEM WHILE YOU CAN. I SEE ON THE NET THAT KT MAY MAKE SHIMANO HUBS. OH WELL... WITH THIS HUB YOU ELIMINATE RIM BRAKES, CABLES ETC. ALSO A LOT OF SIZE HEAD ACHES GO AWAY AS WELL. JUST NO FREEWHEEL... I USE BRAKES TO ADJUST SPEED MUCH MORE THAN STOPPING. PLAN AHEAD AND COAST TO A STOP. BE AWARE OF THE SPOKE SIZE ON THESE. THE "105" IS 12 GAUGE AND THE "080" IS 14 GAUGE. WISH THEY WOULD PICK ONE DESIGNATION AND GO WITH IT. MOST OF YOU WILL USE THE 14 GAUGE SPOKE. I GUESS IF YOU CAN BUILD A WHEEL YOU KNOW THAT ANYWAY! 14 GAUGE SPOKE IN A 12 GAUGE HOLE WILL BREAK... 12 23 2010 addendum: Laced, tensioned, trued and installed. One on the best bikes I have. Built up an old '79 Schwinn 27 inch frame from the BAY. This little hub is at the center of it! Good stuff priced right.
