Product Description

Over the generations of Dura-Ace, we've become more accustomed to seeing the gradual incorporation of carbon fiber. And while this seems like an interpretive advancement, Shimano has remained steadfast in its purposeful placement. So, instead of senselessly making every facet of the Dura-Ace group from carbon, we see it in places of direct benefit, like the mid-spider carrier of the cassette, the arm of the rear derailleur, and at the platform of the Dura-Ace PD-9000 SPD Pedals, So, you might be wondering, aside from the carbon composite body, what's really changed with the 9000 pedals? Well, a great deal, actually. To start, the pedals feature a wider fit positioning adjustability in order to create a more stable platform than what was available with prior iterations. This system has also been paired with a new cleat, as well. Together, the 9000 pedals create a more extensive platform for power transfer, while simultaneously providing an increased level of comfort. And while the aforementioned contributes to an increased pedal efficiency, Shimano has gone to immense lengths to redesign the definition of comfort with the 9000 pedals. The principals of the cleat retention system are centered on a front/center pivoting system. And within this new design, the SM-SH12 cleat plays a pivotal role. This is because the interaction between the cleat and pedal limits toe movement and lateral play by restricting float to +/- one degree. So, the system basically corrects your bad habits before they happen. Together, this will minimize knee strain, hot spots, and contribute to absolute efficiency. However, we advise you not to be intimidated by the shortened degree of float, as this is not to be confused with the strength of cleat retention, only the degree of lateral movement. But, on that note, Shimano did keep one of our favorite features of Dura-Ace pedals, the spring-loaded tension adjustment. This feature is accessible at the rear of the pedal, and is able to dial-in...

I looked for any kind of comparison of this pedal to the 7900 on the web, trying to find the answer to the most asked question "what is the main differences between the 9000 & the 7900." From the way the Shimano PR is written for the 9000, you would think it was very different from the 7900. I took the plunge, as I have been very happy with my 7900s. Holding the two pedals side by side & measuring the width of the platform, they are identical except for the graphics & darker color. I have no complaints about the pedal itself. I just think Shimano was a bit slippery with their product description. There is a 4mm wider axle version available and that is what Shimano is describing with their comment "the pedals feature a wider fit positioning adjustability in order to create a more stable platform than what was available with prior iterations... the 9000 pedals create a more extensive platform for power transfer, while simultaneously providing an increased level of comfort. And in addition to the wide design... " Again - the platform/metal bridge of the 7900 & the 9000 both measure 2.5" wide.

If you like the Shimano Dura Ace pedal concept of carbon/composite construction, high quality, and cleat/retention system, don't spend extra $ ont he 9000 series whent he 7900 is the extact same thing - to the gram! The only difference with the 9000 series is that they're available in 4mm longer shaft, which equates to a 20g heavier weight too. New 7900 sereis pedals can be bought for much less and they are the same (I have both).

I really like these pedals. I've ridden on the (boat anchor) Look pedals that came with my Bianchi Veloce for 12 years and I was ready, yet fearful, for a change. These pedals arrived very quickly, which was nice because I was anxious to get them on and ride with em. Well, installation of pedals and cleats went smooth as can be, you'll need an 8mm hex wrench, one that's long enough to give you some leverage when you need to take them off. After only a couple of adjustments, I'm happy to say that I'm happy I made this change and upgrade. These pedals have a nice platform and are light, yet feel strong, the cleats have even made my Sidi shoes lighter. It's an all around hit with these pedals and you can't beat the price you can get on Amazon, believe me, I tried.

I bought these pedals for my new bike 2014 Trek Madone 5.2.

It s an upgrade from Shimano 105 that I used to own. A vast improvement in terms of weight and easiness to lock in and out.

Highly recommended here.

Expensive but worth it. Very easy to clip in/clip out. Look great and are very well made. Hopefully they're as durable as my previous PD7900's. Good clearance when cornering hard. I use them with the yellow cleats cause I prefer a little float. Recommend them.

I try to purchase from my local bike shop, but sometimes the cost difference between buying online verses the LBS is too great. The pedal and cleat system feels very firm. Very little float, which I like. I have used Speed Play pedals before, but I prefer the feel of these.
